Hi Dudley,
I thought that maybe this question could coax you out of the lurk
in all seriousness though, I really like the way you've got the coils wired for the new dual H Rays and such, would that work on my dual H Bongo5? I'm assuming that because the casings are the same that you're using the Bongo p/u's in the new dual p/u Rays/Sterlings
anywho, thanks for all the great engineering!!

I gotta say, Peter - shrewd work with the title of this thread.

"Oh, hey, Dudley, if you have a moment."

Very nicely done.

I've even proposed a "Dudley Fan Club" t shirt and still can't smoke him out.

Gotta try, though - you're right about that.

Without changing the pickup, I don't think it's going to work. If the pickup doesn't have wires for each of the coils, then you can't wire it up to separate them.

Have you all tried chanting his name in unison to see if it will coax him out of hiding? I'll start it.....

"Dudley...Dudley...Dudley...Dudley..................................."

Add your voices to the chant hehe ;)

In principle it's possible to do that, the PU coils could be separated.
But in the dual PU SRs are not the same PUs than in the Bongo.
The main problem is where to install the switch - there's no space in the Bongo electronics routing to fit it in easy. Maybe the balance Pot can be replaced by a rotary switch but then You will miss the "in between" sounds.

IMHO I think that there's no need for modifikations, the Bongo plays, sounds and looks amazing just the way it is. :)
And I've always modified my other basses.

B.t.w.: I tried out some coil split settings with my Bongo and it's been no big difference, maybe because of the Neodymium Magnets, dunno.

I posted a pick of T levins latest SR5 and it looked it had a bongo pickup in it.
I not trying to stir the pot, but the three band eq from the bongo 1H might have worked in that bass......we may never know.
this is not to be disrespectful to Jongitarz or Dargin or Dudley.

We discussed that photo quite a while back because it did, at least in the photo, look like that pickup had a beveled top edge like a Bongo pickup. Either Jon or Scott asked Dudley about it, if memory serves, and everyone at EBMM agreed that a Bongo pickup had not been installed in a Stingray 5.

The mystery remains!

But it might have been just the photo and lighting and angle.

A three band Bongo EQ would certainly work in a Stingray 5, but according to the experts, it hasn't been done, even for T Levin.

Anyone who has more info, feel free to correct me!

They're just lookalike Bongo Pickups. Scott told me that they are not the same, nor Neodymium Pickups.(If I got him right)
They enhanced the Stingray/Sterling design, also the PU.

have you seen inside the new dual p/u SRs? I have heard that the SC is different so you might be onto something there. as for the 'in between' stuff with the blend, I'd rather have the coil options of the new dual SRs. and for room...well I've got a few other ideas for the control cavity too
I do love my Bongo but hey, I'll let my Ltd. Ed. Buttercream fretless 5 be the "untouched" one :p

hehehehehehe

Jep! I took a sneek peek into the production. Like I wrote: Not the same PUs than in the Bongo.
OK, on stage "in between" sounds do not really count, You're right.

What PU set is on Your Buttercream fretless 5 ? (green from envy! they're not yet available here in Germany, wannahaveit!!!)

Cool. well, we'll see what my Frankenstein will end up like :D
in my fretless is the H/SC/Piezo .... smokin'! The piezo sounds amazing in the fretless and really helps to open it up. Not in Germany!?!?? That sucks man. BTW, who do you tech for? I've just discovered a German(i think) guitarist named Lothar Kosse, cool vibey stuff. Some guys I work with have worked with Lothar. ever heard of him? not really sure how 'big' he is outside of church stuff.
anywho, off to get going on the day :D
thanks for the input Shlumpkin!

Dargin reporting from our NAMM booth

The pickups are not the same just the cover. One of the main reasons we used those pickup covers is because of the single coil covers. It takes a long time to get custom parts. i actually kinda lie the covers in these basses. Dudley and Drew say that these covers shield better than the standard SR ones. PS Derek says hi
