Dudley's inspiration

I'd like to ask Dudley what makes him decide to approach one element or another of guitar design.. what sort of things have inspired his accomplishments?

For example, BP mentioned that Dudley was experimenting with neodymidium (sp?) magnets when BP approached BMW Designworks about doing a bass.

What led Dudley to be playing with those magnets in the first place? Why concentrate on pickups at some point in time versus some other aspect, like body materials, or bridge designs, etc?

It would be interesting to gain some insight into his mental processes.

That being said....design secrets tend to remain design secrets until they're protected by patents, copyrights, trademarks....etc. this stuff shouldn't be be public domain...

I don't know what design secrets you're talking about. I'm inquiring about what made Dudley go down some of the roads that he did when designing certain aspects of the instruments. These are more likely to be funny anecdotal stories than trade secrets. Or maybe some of his personal tendencies.. but nothing that we couldn't tell PRS or Suhr.

For example, what inspired the 4+2 headstock? Did he see something out his office window one day? Was it something he had for lunch? Does he have an aversion to odd numbers?
