So here's my problem. I'm looking to buy a Bongo. I'd like an H in a cool color that's not black. Does it really make sense to spend the extra cash on a limited edition Bongo, particularly for someone who only wants to play the thing, not lock it up as an investment? It's exactly the same as the standard color ones, just with fancy one-off colors.

My next problem is which color to choose.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

How much do you like the LE color?...enough to make it worth the extra $$? To me there's no sense in spending the extra $$ unless you really like the way the LE looks.

The dumb Bongo answer to the dumb Bongo question is "How about a color you like" . Seriously, do you ask your friends what color vehicle you should purchase, etc. I don't mean to be rude but these questions get asked time and again. You are going to plunk down some serious coin on something you should decide on a color anyway. You wanna be playing a bass in a color someone else likes or what you like. I will say the 4H is a very good choice, though you may not have heard them all you certainly have enough resources on this forum and the Musicman website to see them all. Happy hunting ;).

it depends on the color i guess. if the LE color was something i was really, really into then i guess id do it.

for example if the next LE was trans black id pay the upcharge in a heartbeat... but if it was brown then in wouldnt.

its up to u. do you like blue dawn (the current LE) enough to spend more $ on it? only you know the answer.

If you want to spend the extra cheese on the finish, go for it. I don't think any bass should be locked up as an investment though. If you're going to buy a bass, do the honorable thing and play it.

Well, I love the Blue Dawn color. I also like a bunch of the "regular" colors as well. I'm just not sure it's worth the extra money for a special color.

Decisions, decisions...

Well, the order window for the current LE, Blue Dawn, is over. So, if you want one of those, you'll have to find one in the wild. Good luck.

So, if you want a LE, you'll have to wait until the 2008 (if there is one) is announced either at NAMM in January, or possibly if they announce it here early. Otherwise, it's one of the normal stock colors, or find a dealer with the pickup config already on order, or in the shop.

Nothing anyone can say will make you "sure" if a limited color is worth the extra money. You're either willing to spend the money for a special color, or you aren't. Not much to figure out, really.

The only way you are likely ever going to see sparkle on a Bongo is on the "07 LE.
Burst and translucent are not available either. With Bongo's it is solid colors only. That narrows the field down quite a bit so your decision shouldn't really be all that difficult.

Pretty much the first H bongo you can find will be the one for you if it isn't black.

Just do it.

Don't worry be happy.

If you have to ask if a color is worth extra $$, then it is probably not right for you.

When I was thinking of buying my first Bongo two years ago I posted the usual "Which color is best" polls, and listed all of the available colors.

The results were utterly inconclusive. Everybody has their favorite. I have noticed a few things, FWIW (which is precisely nothing):

1) Knuckleheads are not representative of the population as a whole. BP has said this many times. This makes our opinions highly suspect.

2) Knuckleheads will go all moist over the latest thing out of the factory no matter what it is. At the time I bought my first Bongo, it was Stealth. Stick around long enough and you'll see this happen over and over, every time something new crops up, without exception. What can I say? We're all fanboys (and girls).

3) If you care about what you look like on stage and you really like the looks of the Bongo, consider one of the lighter/brighter colors, like DG. Colors like that stand out on stage and draw attention. See the photos below.

4) BD is very, very, very cool. :D

Those look really, really nice, I have to admit...

...different question (hijack alert): What are those bass stands? They look very sturdy!
