So I brought my Y2D in with me for a lesson the other day and besides my teacher commenting on how great it looks he also asked me what that little protruding wheel looking thing is that sits between the neck and the neck pickup. So me knowing nothing about guitars other than if they feel good to me had no answer for him:eek: I figure if he had never seen something like that it must be something weird... so what is it and what does it do? I hope this isnt a completely dumb question:confused: Thanks

It is for adjusting the truss rod in the neck. Much more convenient than the methods used on other guitars.

Its the truss rod adjustment wheel. It makes adjustment a breeze... a totally ingenious design! Welcome to the forum :)

Oops.... looks like DaveB got the drop on me.

It's the trussrod adjustment wheel. If you have problems with the neck you can adjust the relief with that. It's one of the great features on a musicman guitar. No truss rod cover or strings to remove for adjustment.

And welcome to the forum, stick around and you'll learn plenty about that guitar of yours.

ditto... too late again... :)

I'm surprised the teacher asked that, If he asks you "hey what's that long black rubber thing plugged into the guitar?" my advice would be find another teacher ;) :D . disclaimer "I'm only joking"

Colin,
He's probaly been a Gib'der player all his life. My teacher knew about musicman guitars, but had never played one until he played mine, so I guess it might not be that surpising to me. There's a lot of misguided souls roaming around out there. Not that there's anything wrong with that... to each his own.

It is so much cooler to be able to give your guitar a quick 'tweak' and adjust the neck in 2 seconds. Ensures that your guitar always feels its best and is easily playable.

I believe the truss rod adjustment access is one of Guitarburetor's crowning moments.

That and a bazillion other innovations.

Maybe we can get him to tell us the story of it's development.

My god! I was not expecting so many posts in such a short amount of time, you guys sure seem like you have one big happy community here so I'll probably stick around:D So is this type of truss rod ajuster is like exclusive to Musicman guitars? thats pretty cool. The reason my teacher didn't know what it was is cause he's pretty much just a classical guitarist who doesn't really keep up on electric guitar innovation... He's not an idiot or something;) Thanks guys later

I believe the Peavey Wolfgangs also had a truss rod adjustment wheel. In fact they look rather surprisingly like the Axis ;) .

Why are you taking electrical guitar lessons from a classical guitarist? I know from my classical guitar teacher that he considered anything but classical sacrilege. He had never heard of Satriani, Vai, Yngwie, Morse etc. or even Michael Hedges.

Even flamenco he kind of derided as substandard guitar.

Well he's the teacher at the Community College I've been going to its not like I pay a bunch of money to only be taught classical. He listens to everything and plays in some rock cover bands but mainly makes his living off being a classical guitarist and teaching. If you care go to joegalambos.com even if to just watch his video called Master of Music in the film section. I thought it was funny as hell... sorry for the plug:rolleyes:
