So does anyone know a way I can get one?

The guitar is up for the chop and purely based on the fact that I have come to the conclusion that thin necks are not for me.

So Its a 2006 MD with a piezo and sounds great.

Just in an ideal world I would prefer a neck like a 50s Telecaster on it.

Hmmm. Music Man won't sell you a neck unless it's to replace a damaged one on an existing guitar and you'll only get a the same neck the instrument was originally made with. So you'll have to swap necks with somebody or buy another Music Man and swap necks.

Being a 24 fret guitar, the only other Music Man neck that might do the job for you is the Silhouette. That would be thicker than the JP neck though nowhere near as a beefy as an old telecaster. It's also a 10" radius and slightly narrower at the heel than a JP neck, and I don't know if the heel thickness is compatible with a JP body.

Short of having a custom neck made for you somewhere else that would fit the JP body, I really don't think there is much you can do.

I thought this may be the case...

I have a friend that is a luthier so I think it is time I asked him.

Just my two cents, but one of the main things that draw people to MM is the necks. If that's what doesn't work for you, I think I would seriously consider selling it and go to a brand where you can spec all of that out. There are some really great options and you'd get exactly what you want.

If you spend the cash to get an aftermarket neck made, it may not be to your liking and you'll probably have a hard time selling it, down the road.

beej we are friends but I think you were a bit extreme in your post. I own at least one of every EB model except a Luke and the neck specs on the JP is the only EB neck I am not crazy about which puts me in the minority since it is the biggest seller, but I would not go looking elsewhere when I love every other EB ax I own. I found what Kev said as food for thought and if a Silo neck would work I would keep an eye out for one for personal use or keep my fingers crossed that something happens where a JP is offered with a bigger neck down the road like what happened with the Dark Lord. Dont start getting cranky in your old age lol.

Hello

Perhaps, it's a silly suggestion, but did you try to rise the action and / or use heavier strings ?
On my Morse, I play with 10-52 (standard tuning) and the action is not very low (in fact for a shredder I'm sure that my action is very high !) because I like to play with a slide. When friends try my guitar, they say that the neck is a manly neck ... But in fact the Morse neck is not big at all, but the heavy strings and the action give it some "meat".
Good luck

If you love eveything except the neck - you could look into getting one made with a thicker profile. Your current neck could serve as a template for the luthier and you wouldn't need to buy tuners - both cost savings. You'd also have the original to slap back on if you want to sell it. Just my 2 cents! Best of luck.

Hah! Well I just figure, if the guitar's not working for you, why chase it. You can lose your mind (and your wallet) getting something to feel just right.

Btw, I'm in the same camp as you- every MM neck feels great to me except the JP neck, which I just can't get on with.

The Dargie Delight 2 LE has a thicker neck compared to the regular JP6. However it is very far from a Tele neck profile; still this is something you can try.

I have owned a lukeII, a silhouette special wich i love the neck, a morse with floyd, and a floyd rose silhouette. The floyd silhouette is a chunky neck and did not like it. Might be what you need to try.

I've stuck it up for sale as although its a phenomenal instrument it isn't quite right for me. So as of now its on Ebay in the UK along with a really nice RG560 from '91.

Both great guitars, but I like clubs for necks it would seem.
