Axis tribute owner here and I absolutely love my Axis. I love it so much I'd like my other guitars to have the same bare wood feel. Has anyone stripped the finish from the necks of their other guitars and what did you use to finish the wood after you do this.

Did you just use Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil finish along with their Gun Stock Wax? How many coats did you use and how long does it take to dry?

Were you happy with the result?

I will actually run a little bit of 2000 grit on the back of my EBMM necks every once in a blue moon too,....super smooth.

It's not really applied as a finish, more of a surface treatment. By that I mean that we are not building up multiple layers or drying and sanding between layers. A small amount of Tru-Oil on a paper towel, wipe on, let sit for a minute or two, then thoroughly wipe off with fresh paper towels. Do the same thing with the Gun stock wax. It's that simple and that fast. You're done!

Yes, after having my EBMMs I had a Squier that I really like so I decided to sand the back of the neck. It came out great, it was a piece of cake. On the oil and wax treatment, just what they said above, really easy. One thing I didn't see mentioned was as a final final treatment before the oil/wax I've used steel wool, makes it real smoooooooothe.
