Hello Everyone,

I thought I'd take the advice of Maddog and post a new thread about a question I had regarding batteries.

I was curious as to why Duracell batteries seem to be the brand most recommended (in my experience) by well known bass makers such as EBMM.

Some of you have already said that they last longer than the others, and I would have to agree, as I only use Duracell as well. Are there any other reasons? Do they seem to compliment the instruments' active electronics better?

...Just curious...

I can't comment with any real authority because I'm not an expert. They say that Duracells actually deliver higher voltage longer than other brands.

This is in line with the fact that most other industries and professions prefer Duracells in their lines of work, where failure and unreliability affect the bottom line in a negative way. This includes the medical field, the home security system industry and the military. Duracells just seem to be an industry standard for many industries. With no exceptions aside for my Sadowsky Metro, every single high-end bass I've owned came with a Duracell.

Plus, it looks like many instrument builders, pickup makers, and preamp designers use Duracells in their design and R+D. To me, it makes sense to stick with the power source used in those design phases.

I've found that Duracells give me more high-end than other brands. So when I want to add a bit of high-end grit to my sound or slap, I pop in some fresh Duracells.

:p

But really, no sé.

Thanks for humouring me. I'm curious as well because I've read about other brand batteries not fitting too well. So I assume the battery compartments were designed specifically for the duracell. If so, that begs the question, "Why arre duracells so good that someone designed a battery compartment to fit them specifically?"

I use Duracell Procells. Buy a 12 pack, lasts forever, less packaging, cool design and costs a little bit less actually. I find they last about 5-10% longer.

i think i remember Jon mentioning that the size of the Duracells is very consistent so they fit the battery compartment "correctly" very often whereas soem other brand batteries tend to vary in width etc more often

i think i remember Jon saying that ... maybe he'll chim in and correct me if im wrong

It's interesting that you mention that, and perhaps you can enlighten me a bit on something.

I've began to avoid buying batteries in bulk ahead of time(as I used to do) because I've heard that, even just lying around in your room, they start becoming weaker and weaker, and it makes more sense to just buy them when you need them. If nothing else this has proved right in the sense that I haven't had to replace a battery in one of my EBMM's in so long I have 9Vs that have gone past the 'best before' date lying around.

Anybody know anything more about this? It seems to make sense.

If you buy them in bulk, keep them in the refrigerator until you use them. They last longer that way.

I go and buy whatever is at the dollar store. $1 for 2 (I think it's Panasonic) 9vs. The one in my SR5 right now was put it in last September and still crankin' it out.

I've never heard of storing batteries in a fridge. Can anyone tell me as to why? Apparently it gives you more hours out of them or a longer shelf life or maybe you're all just freaks and like cold batteries.

sorry to change the subject but you fellas

I also keep crazy glue in the "beer"

Coffee in the freezer is good, it keeps that just ground taste...

Actually, I have a mate who's a bit of an audiophile who keeps his CD's in the freezer, he reckons they sound better.

We'll, I guess I'm the odd man out here.

I use Energizers. The main reason that I use them is that's the brand that Sam's Club sells in bulk. Never had any complaints about them though.

They just keep going and going and going and going and going.......... :p

I use whatever is around. Ihave yet to have one go dead. I usually replace them after sevreal months because im bored. But a quick test (buzz on the tongue) reveals that it stil has life left.

If I read you correctly, you replace batteries that you know are most likely to prove perfectly serviceable, because you're bored, and when you're bored you dig a quick buzz on the tongue ?
