Hey all,

I got my Morse out of the case the other day and noticed the high (unwound) E string has started that "sitar" thing. It does it open and fretted. What can I do to fix it?

two things come to my mind:

perhaps the high E's saddle should be adjusted(lift it up)

Or , the neck. but first, I'd check out the saddle. (Or the stud ,on that side of the bridge)

if the action is low & clear in the upper registers........my first guess would be that your truss rod is slightly too tight . turn it slightly as needed counter clockwise to raise the action.
my second guess is your nut slot has worn & is allowing the string to sit too close to the frets.
if the saddle was too low.....the strings would probably be buzzing in the upper frets too.

I'll give loosening the neck's tension a go. I always ask advice before doing those type of things. I'm no expert....

Funny you mention this, my Axis' high E also had the sound of a sitar on open and from the twelth fret onwards. I lossened the rod a tad and the sitar seemed to have gone so a while, however, I'm noticing that it now tends to go in and out of sitar mode. I have not checked the nut yet, although this is the second one i've had on it in the last 10 months. Maybe its a sign?

I wonder if anyone else has experienced problems with the nut on their Axis?

Thanks Butch for raising the subject, hoping your problem is resolved with just a rod tweak.

One way of checking if it is the nut........you could put a bit of tobacco paper in the nut slot. If it solves the problem then that could be your answer. I always have a pcket of rizlas in my case for a quick fix in case something like this happens.

Update on my Sitar sounding Axis, playing around trying different ways of ridding the sitar sound when i decided to look at something i never thought would ever be a problem, the bolt s for the nut and the saddles. These bolts at both locations were all loose, so i tightened them up and it made a big difference, not the entire answer, however i'm happier now playing my Axis and not my Ravi cum Sitar/Axis.
