Check the bridge saddle for burrs. Also lubricate the nut slot with a #2 pencil. Just color in the slot with the pencil.

Ahh, I realized that I was just thinking about this differently. When someone says bottom string to me I think the lowest, but some people view the bottom as farthest away from them on the guitar, thus being the highest string. I'm sorry for lashing out in my last post, I was just looking at the dilemma a tad differently

i changed my strings today to slinkys ,they sound awesome, except for the e string as i somehow managed to snap it at the nut whilst changing them doh

The easy fix for that is the #2 pencil. Provides enough lubrication to bring a string up to pitch without breaking it. Unless there is a groove inside the groove in the nut. In which case you probably need a new nut cut.

imho

Plus - you could be playing a 6 string bass tuned E to E, no? ;)
