Just wanted to let every one know about my experience with the service folks at Ernie Ball.
After reading through a bunch of forums, I caught wind of the over-discussed issue with the neck joint crack in the JPM bodies (on the older models). I was curious what this was all about so I inspected my guitar and couldn't find anything. Later, I finally saw a close up picture somewhere on the web. Now knowing better where to find this crack, sure enough, I had one too.
This crack was miniscule. I've had this thing for right at a year and I could just barely see it with one of those mini-magnifiers. I called Ernie Ball and inquired about this. Expecting them to say, "we would like to see how bad it is" or, "how long have you had it" or "have you used and abused the axe", but instead, no questions asked, except what's the serial number so we can track it in the shop, here's your Return Authorization. Send us your guitar we'll get you a new body. Just that simple. They did ask about the case and it's fit. Unsure what to be looking for, they promised to replace the case as well.
Three weeks later, just as promised, I have a fresh as new JPM Mystic Blue. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that I had to pay one way for the shipping and, that they wouldn't allow me to pay the extra-bucks to add the piezio option. But hey. I got what I bargained for about a year ago.
I was told that these cracks have been mostly superficial (in the finish only) and that their belief had been the first run of cases used in shipping these things out.
New case + new guitar = happy camper! Thank EB!
