EB Musicman stingray fretless?

Hi all, just a quick question.....I have a EB Musicman stingray (B023677) it's a factory fretless. The thing I wanted to know is, why is the neck dated 1986 and the body is dated 1988....is that normal? I think the serial No. suggests, 1987-88 The bass is all original. Thanks.

My understanding is that the fretless necks are made in batches, and kept in stock until a fretless bass was ordered, then a neck is grabbed from stock to mate with a newly manufactured body.
