Got some strap locks in the mail today. I am installing them and I notice the stock screws are longer than the ones provided in the strap lock bag. I installed the strap locks with the screws that came with them. It seems like they're on good and tight. Did I do it right or does it even matter?

Same thread diameter, so i don't think it really matters... But i still used the longer ones.
I was thinking maybe they're shorter to accomodate for the fact that the screw head sits much lower than the stock one because of the hollowed out cavity.
Oh and yes they rock. I like them more than the schallers I have on my JP red pb. I am wondering why the schaller's fit perfectly on that one? Did the schallers used to fit on the older JPs without replacing the receiving grommet? Or perhaps the previous owner (I bought that one used) installed the schaller receiving grommets on the guitar? Just wondering.

they seemed the same to me. I installed them on 5 guitars just the other day with no problems.

I considered that... But can confirm that (on my EBs - Lukes & Silos) the buttons pulled up tight using the original screws and did not require any extra depth etc etc.. All Good

I bought a pair for my 20th just a couple of days ago, and I used the screws that came with them. They are shorter indeed, but I compared both strap buttons with their respective screws, and they looked to go equally deep. But if you put the stock screws into the new strap lock buttons, the screw will go deeper into the guitar horn, which is sometimes not so good. The screws are completely identical, except for the lenght, so I don't see any problem in using the new ones, just to be safe.
That said, these strap locks rule! So does my new Moody strap!

I just got my set yesterday. I used the stock screws, as they only sit a couple of threads deeper anyway, so I figured they wouldn't cause any problems, and would probably hold a little tighter. I didn't notice any extra resistance going in, I suspect the pilot holes might be a bit deeper than the stock screws anyway.
Also, the shorter screws were in a little bag, which the stock screws weren't, and I'm a path-of-least-resistance kind of guy.
