Here's an interesting link...

eBay listing - Luke

Seller says the pickup mods were done at the factory, but I find that hard to believe; I don't think EB would do a mod like this - swapping out the EMGs for Duncans and a pickguard... When I asked about getting a modded Luke (with an Axis neck), they politely but firmly told me 'NO'...

that guitar was modified by a friend of mine here in NY, I know the guy and the guitar, he works at a music store here in nY and he had the pups switched out to a duncan custom custom, he recently sold it and I guess the guy he sold it to is now selling it and lying about the guitar, its a standard luke, the pickguiard was added because he originally had a synth set up on there and the pidcguard covers the holes - lock

the guitar in the pic is unlikely to have a duncan custom custom, as they have the SD logo on them. The seller says it has a 59, which is possible as 59s do not have a logo.

It's my understanding that any Duncan pickup can be ordered without the logo if you want it that way....

I just purchased that Luke off of E-Bay. I already had a feeling that the modifications were not done at EB, but for the price I wanted to make it a project guitar as well. I will probably swap out pickups anyway. As far as the pickgaurd I am curious to take it off and reveal whats underneath now that I just heard about the synth setup!! I have not recieved it yet but when I do I will inform everyone of how it is. Maybe include pics of pickgaurd off as well.

Guys,

We would never let a guitar out of the factory especially a signature model with modifications
like this particular Luke. We have in the past made some prototype versions of Artist guitars for the Artist themselves, but arbitrarily would not do a one off for a normal customer.

Hava ball has the right frame of mind, it may not be original ,but it would be a good project guitar
to play around with.

Thanks

Derek

Ok I got the badly mistreated Luke. At first I was a little disgruntled. I took the pickgaurd off to reveal 2 screw holes near the bridge were the pickup for the synth was located. The small hole described in the e-bay listing is were the synth controls were attached. The next day I took it all apart and cleaned the bridge, lemon oiled the fretboard and polished the frets. I fitted it with some new D'Addario 10's and except for needing a good setup, she purrs like a kitten. I am now very pleased. As far as the pickgaurd, I am going to keep it on. I considered a new paint job but I actually kind of like the pickgaurd. The 2 single pickups suck but the '59 Duncan is not bad. Does not matter because I am going to fit with the original EMG's that supposed to come with it. Although I might choose different singles for the middle and neck. The neck playability is awesome, a big differance from my LesPaul. Already within the 2 days it has already broadend my horizons on song compositions. All in all I am very happy, not as much work to be done here as I thought. I need a new nut as well. How much are they thru EB?:D

Hi there, I went to the completed items for a look. Good buy, and so what if it's modified. That just means that the previous owner had the guts to try something different. Set it up for your own style and tone, and make it shine. Soon the up tight, no imagination, must be all original guys will want one like yours..
Some of the best dogs are mutts. Enjoy
