I am contemplating getting a Dr. Z Z-28. Any forumites have any experience with Dr. Z amps?
MM 90s thru Dr. Z?
Axis pickups with Z?
Silos and Zs?

Thanks!

Dr Z Amps? Do I like 'em? With my EBMM guitars? Yes! Great combination of tones. I am crazy for Z amps and EBMM guitars equally :D

Currently I've got a Z-28 with a 210 cab; Carmen Ghia with 112 cab; and, Galaxie 112 combo. All work very nicely for cleans with my Super Sports. And, you can really crank 'em up and let 'em rip when it comes to over-drive. Have also tried a Silhouette thru Ghia and Maz 18. Very nice results. Send me a pm, or try a visit to the dr z forum :)

cheers always, eh

I have a MAZ 18 Junior NR (non-reverb) head, I run it through a Dr. Z ported 212 cab or 210 open-back cab. Sounds absolutely amazing with single coils, it's my favorite amp for my ASS guitars with MM90s, and my Albert Lee BFR. I also have a Mini-Z combo (5 watts)...it's fun too, like an OD pedal with a speaker.

Since you asked about a bunch of pickups...I'm not as nuts about it with the Axis with HHs. Also, while the Silo Special sounds GREAT through the Z, nothing wroing there at all, it's not my absolute favorite amp for that guitar. For some reason, I like my Silo Specials (SSS and HSS) better through the Mesa Lone Star.

If you like Brad Paisley's sound, it's pretty straight forward to get something in that ballpark (surprise, surprise).

I've also played the MAZ 38, Prescription RX, and Carmen Ghia. They're all really nice amps.

Just a small question in between:

I have a MAZ 18 jr, magnificent amp, great sounds... It breaks up very nicely at moderate volumes...

I am however, considering the MAZ38, since I really want to gig the MAZ18, but I'm thinking I will have to crank it up too much in a live situation. I really love the slightly overdriven sound of the 18, but I'm guessing it wont really cut through in a crowded bar.

So, any of you guys have tried both, would the MAZ38 deliver the same great sounds at a bit of a higher volume? Or would I have to turn it up too loud, to get the sound I love on the MAZ18...

I know, I should probably just try one, but they don't selll locally around here, unfortunately...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Well I did get the Z-28 which sounds spectacular in the live setting. It takes pedals so so well. And, I did pick up a Maz 38 Senior 1-12 combo. It to sounds incredible, and push the front end with some nice pedals, like Xotic RC and BB, and it's over the top, totally the bomb. I love the 20th thru these amps along with the regular Silo, and MM90 Sport. And Dr. Z has great customer service as well. I had a problem (which turned out to be a rectifier tube rattle), called the company and spoke with a very helpful person for about 25 minutes, and got diagnosed over the phone, turned out to be Dr. Z himself. Very down to earth and gracious fellow. So EBMM and Dr. Z go very well together indeed!
