Hi Jon,

At your earliest convenience could you please let me know when the EVH model with serial number 80467 was built?
Also, this guitar is purple, and seems to have a one piece quilted maple top as apposed to being book-matched. Is this possible? Were any of the EVH's built this way? I looked at the guitar very closely and could not find a seam between the two pieces. Let me know. Thanks.

The guitar in question can be found here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...me=STRK:MEWA:IT

I almost hate to admit it, but I am the owner of the guitar. The reason I say this is because I was reading the posts on this forum and came across a thread titled "EVH on eBay. I don't get this one. "

I was a bit set back by the insults. I was like... man what the heck did I do wrong?!? I meant no harm or to come across as arrogant.
The story behind that auction was that I wanted to see what I could get for the EVH. I had absolutely no intention of selling the guitar at all. I figured some good marketing and nice shots would peak a lot of interest. That is an understatement. I am still getting emails asking if I want to sell. The most offered so far is $10,000! The person is an art collector who sees the guitar as a piece of art. He doesn't even play guitar. As tempting as that offer is, I just love the guitar way to much to part with it. It is by far the best sounding guitar I have ever owned.

I agree with what some have stated in the thread that "An instrument is worth whatever somebody will pay for it." I also own some les Paul’s and other guitars, some which retail for between 3k -5k. I would put my EVH against any one of them.

Anyway, years ago I had called EBMM and asked about the D.O.B but I have since lost that info. I know the year, but not the exact date. I am also curious about the top as to whether or not it is book matched or a single piece. Can you tell by looking at the photos?

(1) That guitar you own is definitely a fine instrument. No doubts about that.

(2) Regd the comment "An instrument is worth whatever somebody will pay for it.": It works both ways. For some people (whatever the reason maybe) the guitar is only work 0.02$. Just got to live with it.

(3) Regd "I had absolutely no intention of selling the guitar at all. I figured some good marketing and nice shots would peak a lot of interest": Nice work on the fake auction wasting a lot of other people's time and Ebay's. I would have probably spent the time on maybe playing my guitar more rather than taking other people for a ride.

Taking cheap shots at someone you don’t even know is a bit childish. You say I should play my guitar more?!? What in the world does that have to do with placing my guitar on eBay? The auction took 15 minutes do draft up.

If you consider my auction as taking people for a ride, then all I can say is that there is a much crueler world out there that you may want to tune into. On the level that we are discussing here, the guy that copied my auction and was ready to steal money… that is what I consider ‘taking people for a ride’. I wanted to know what people were willing to pay for my guitar. Sure I could have gone to a dealer, and been offered half of what I feel the guitar is worth but the auction was a better way (IMHO) for me to go about it. Also, I didn’t waste eBays time. I paid for that auction. Not sure how you drew up that conclusion.

This posting is for info on my guitar. If you have the info great, post it. If not, life is too short dude. Go make it a better place, go enjoy it. Better yet, let’s make a deal. Don’t waste my time and I won’t waste yours. I would have probably spent the time on maybe playing my guitar more rather than posting what you did. ;)

Hey Alrod,

I started the thread you are talking about, "EVH, I don't get this one." As I remember, there were no insults flung at anyone. My reason for starting that thread was to try and get help in figuring out why so many people were so hot for that guitar. I was truly perplexed. I take it from your post, the reason may be because of the guitar's looks (quilting, coloring, etc.) Correct?

Hi Ernie,
I agree, your particular posts had no insults. The insults I was refering to were 'This guy must smoke nuclear crack', and the one accusing me of 'shilling' the auction. I was just surprised that's all. No biggie. I'm over it.

As far as the bidding goes, I am as puzzled as you are as to why people were bidding so much! Based on the emails I received, most individuals were impressed with the quilting as well as the color not being so faded. People also liked the fact that it was a 1st year production model, and the fact that it was in great shape for a 15 year old guitar.

We humans are funny creatures. There is a guy I work with that is getting ready to plop down like $23k for a watch. Heck just give me a cheapo Timex and I'm happy. No telling why people do what they do. Who am I to judge? To each his/her own. I guess it goes back to that old saying... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Yep, we all are funny creatures. I won't spend jack on clothes or jewelery or a very nice car, but I'll plunk down 3 g's for a Petrucci prototype. It all depends on what floats our individual boats.

Oh, one more thing:

How do you resist selling that guitar for 10 grand?!

I was really busy at work today, and didn't have time to check the DOB. I will try tomorrow.

I want to say that this is starting to sound a lot like a thread I had to close the other day. This is not the place to fix ebay problems, or start flaming wars.
This is not directed at any one person, but there are a few posts here that we can do with out.

Thanks

LOL, I know what you mean. It's actually a mixture of things. Eddie is my all time favorite guitar player, and of all the guitars he has had over the years, the EBMM EVH appeals to me the most. The guitar looks great, sounds great, and fits me perfectly.

The next question is "OK then, why not just sell yours for 10k and then buy 4 or five of them?" I wish it were that simple but it's not. As you well know all guitars (even within the same brand/model) sound different due to the variations in the wood. I have played several EVH's that sounded dead. No sustain, dead spots, etc. Then again, others that I have played sounded "OK" but not great.

My guitar resonates like no other that I have played. With the guitar unplugged, the sustain is unreal. It sustains as well my Les Pauls. When plugged in, the guitar just kills. This is just one of those guitars that is perfect. Call me crazy, but I am one proud and happy MoFo when it comes to my EVH. I also have a 90's ESP Vintage Plus Strat that I feel the same way about. It sounds better than any Strat I have ever played. Musician buddies of mine are constantly wanting to buy it, but it's not for sale either.

P.S. I also want to add that the quality of the EBMM EVH's were a lot more consistant than Gibson Les Pauls by a long shot. Kudos to EBMM for that!

Thanks Jon,
I have read through some of your posts and realize that you are a busy guy. I am not in a big hurry so don't sweat it. If you could let me know about the quilted top on this particular guitar, that would be fantastic. Thanks again!

Wasting peoples money wasting eBays money? he had to PAY ebay for just listing the guitar... I'm sure the auction cost him about $200 in ebay fees. So really, the only one wasting money is him. it's his money and his perogative. I don't feel that comment was warrented.

Oh come on, that's kinda funny. IF you actually thought you were going to get 10K from the auction, then you have to admit, you'd have to be smoking SOMETHING. Though, someone WAS willing to pay $10k.... They have to be smoeking something too. :p

Sorry Alrod.

Sundar,

No problem really. Like I said I am over it. The great thing about this country is that we can speak freely. It's all good bro. Like the guy in the previous post said, some of this stuff is funny (in hindsight).
The bad thing about the internet is that we can't see each others facial expressions as we are typing what we say. . I think there would be a lot less hurt feelings if we could. I applaude Jon for keeping the peace on this forum. Not too many sites do that. Anyway, peace Sandar :)
