Question EBMM EVH frets

Hi all! Unfortunately the time has come for me to get my old EVH new frets. I doubt they can be filed (crowned) at this point. She has many miles on her so I think it's time to get new frets.

My question is which kind of frets did she come with? I've herad a few different types so I'm not sure. I'd like to know before I had it over to my local Luthier and ask him to figure it out.

Was there only one kind of fret that they left with from the factory or was there options?

Any info would be helpful.

Not exactly an answer ... but have you considered sending it to MM for a refret? You won't find anybody better and their rates are really reasonable.

hello Beej, Well I actually spoke to a gent from the EBMM booth at the Philly show a few weeks back and said they're kind of busy for things like that.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry, wish I knew- I don't recall EBMM saying what kind of wire they use. Maybe CS would let you know what they use, or something equivalent?

Allen have you ever had a fret dress on it before? If not I am pretty certain you should be able to get away without having to get a re-fret. Depending on the wire I used to be able to go through 2 fret dressings before having to get a re-fret, though I stopped that years ago as the second one made it feel almost fretless.

Hi Cat, Good question about a dressing. I'm not quite sure but I would guess it has not had one (I know not whilst in my ownership). They seem to be quite flat from 1 to about 14 (not too bad higher) but you're right, I might be able to get away with a dressing on this one. I brought a different guitar into my local Luthier and got a quote for $100 for a dressing and set up so that's an option. But I guess I was looking to make sure I knew what was on there now so I could tell him exactly what I wanted if a dressing was not possible. But thanks very much for your comment. It's good to know one can get a few dressings on bigger frets! I've never had one of mine done so this is all new to me.

Send customer service an email and ask them. I did this a couple years ago and it was pretty reasonable then. It's worth first bringing it to a luthier to ask what he thought. If it hasn't been leveled before, it certainly might be.
