EBMM for jazz

I have just started getting in to jazz-listening and playing. I really like the hollowbody, comping sound found in more traditional jazz. Of course, that is hard to get from a solid body like my ebmm's. I am wondering if the Reflex could get close. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, I think the Reflex or Axis is probably the best bet.

The Reflex is the ultimate tone machine!
Well until the Game Changer comes out anyway.

I agree, I think the Reflex would suit jazz perfectly.

Fogman is right though... If you're thinking about purchasing soon, at least wait the 3-4 weeks until NAMM and the Gamechanger comes out.

Keep in mind that Elmer Ferrer plays TONS of jazz and blues fusion and sounds beautil with a HSS silo spec.

reflex or the luke i think.

i use the luke for jazz, you can get really fantastic tones

yep luke is awesome for jazz (lukather is a jazzy guy) tone knob warms up nicely for those hollow comping sounds. I've used mine with great success at college in the jazz band.

Dario Cortese (Endorsee) gets great jazz tones from an Axis.

The reflex would be a great choice too.

The Luke can give you a nice dark jazz sound with the tone pot backed off a bit, but I'd go with a model, which has a humbucker in the neck position.
the reflex with chambering seems to be a great choice for this kind of application

Thanks for the responses. I've been a 'rock guy' my whole life but have found myself drawn to blues/jazz for awhile. Maybe it's cause I'm getting old...lol. Crazy how different the approach is-I have to totally change gears in my thinking and playing. Any other EBMM jazz playing endorsees that you can recommend?

Well the semi hollow guitars do their own thing. Keep in mind htough that plenty of guys have used solid bodies and guitars with tone chambers in jazz. DiMeola, Holdsworth, Chris Poland to name a few. I think as long as you can find a guitar thats warm and round into a clean or semi overdriven amp you'll be set. I grew up with a guy that went the jazz route at a very young age. He eventually went on to get his masters degree in jazz music. If you're in the New Orleans area go check him out. His name is John Bagnato. Killer player. He'res a mellow vid he did about 2 years ago.

Anyways I've played a lot of his jazz boxes. He always went for a warm round tone. I'll bet the Relfex could get you a nice jazz tone.

I get *great* jazz tones from my Reflex. I think the chambering does a lot to help get the sound of a jazzier guitar.

Go try one out where you can really listen to the guitar and feel its response. it's quite an amazing guitar.

When ever I try out a guitar at a store, I use almost nothing but clean channels and do lots of Jazz chords and runs. To me, if a guitar can sound good in that application, it's going to sound good for just about anything I play (I'm not a metal guy mind you).

I did that recently with a Reflex running through a Fender Twin Reverb and I thought it sounded fantastic. Very smooth sound but with great clarity if that makes sense. The jazzy stuff sounded very good to me.

I have a Silo Special S-S-S, and I think it handles jazz very well too. I tend to tweak the amp a bit differently with that guitar, but it sounds at home with Jazz, Blues, and Rock.

I think the AL could do nicely especially the MM90, BFR, and HH ones.

Any guitar with a good clean tone will do jazz IMO. But the Reflex would probably get the closest to a hollow body tone, just by looking at the specs.
