The Japanese axis's (Axis EX and EXS) were meant for the japanese market only as EBMM USA couldnt keep up with demand and therefore are rarely found outside Japan. According to Derek these arent made any more though, with production ceasing in 2001. Essentially the same as the US version (same hardware but japanese crafted wood) the main difference is that they are layed out in the original EVH format (toggle switch on lower horn, no contour in back, less body routing for switches as there are no japanese Sport / SS models)

I got my one off of ebay.com by typing in Ernie MusicMan Axis and it just happened to be there along with all the regular US ones we always keep track of!!! The guy I bought it off lives in the US but used to work for the EBMM's japanese distributor and he handpicked it when he was over there!!!

Keep on searching Tony!

You can still buy new ones from Ishibashi:

http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/webshop/world/guitar/musicman/axis/#AXIS-EX
(note: you don't need to install the Japanese language pack to view this page - if windows prompts you to install a language pack, just cancel out of it...)

They sell to Westerners, but after you factor in the costs of shipping and duty and whatever, it's substantially more $$$ than you'd spend on a new USA Axis...
