EBMM JP6 vs. OLP JP6 neck ..same,close or totally different animals ?

This is the question I present ..I just ordered my nephew..whom graduated from the 5th. grade..as a gift..a OLP JP6 online..I've been told..that someone like myself..whom enjoys the Axis neck..would NOT enjoy the neck specs on a EBMM JP6 or JP7 ..Why I'm asking is , How close is the OLP JP6 neck specs to the real deal..can this help me choose to actually purchase the REAL EBMM JP6 .I don't have an EBMM dealer near me to try a REAL JP6 .So I was wondering how close to the real deal is the OLP model Petrucci , and is this a good mock-up to practice on...when my nephew is busy playing outside:D:D If you look on my MySpace page..His first guitar is on there..The BC Rich Piccalo Gunslinger ..I'm trying to get him into EBMM's...and he digs Dream Theater & Petrucci

Totally different, I think. It might have the same measurements. I can't really say, but it does not in any way feel the same. That's from my one or two times with my hands on an OLP JP neck. That was a long time ago. It's certainly not of the same quality. Not bad for a starter guitar, but not in the same league as the JP6 neck. No way. kneeoh has (had?) both. He may chime in.

Additional point. FWIW, I like both the JP6 and Axis (well, ASS anyway) necks. I think Joe Web has both.

You're an awesome uncle!!

He's my reason for locating from L.A to shoot & work more on this coast .He's the one on the DW's in my pics on MySpace ...He's a solid A student..He's in band....more yardage then any receiver in the southern West Virginia area for his age..and on the number 2 ranked AAU basketball team in West Virginia for 11 & under..going to the Nationals in a couple of weeks..Been playing drums since he could walk..Literally..His first steps are with Mike Portnoys drumsticks in hand..and banging on my 18X19 Sonor Phonic Plus drums..I actually have photos..I literally closed my eyes for second..and the little sucker took off running..I heard a huge boom..and he was walking and bangin on the drums..With a pair of Portnoys sticks from Mikes first endorsement..besides remo .I could play guitar or bass without him on my knee for years ..The last photo is him backstage at the NEWSBOYS concert several years ago..He proceeded to tell Jody Davis(guitarist at the time)..that my Uncles Ernie's(EBMM) were better then his . He tells people he's from New York..LOL...Well..enuff Uncle blabbering..Thanks for the kind words

Hunter

Its funny you ask this becuase I actually prefer the OLP neck to the real JP, it seems to be not as wide and thin as the real JP, Im an axis/silo/AL neck lover so I like those shapes, different radius's but the width of the fretboard is the same or similiar, the JP neck is wide and way too thin for my liking, plus I dont dig the floating bridge, but different strokes for different folks - they are not the same though, if you want a JP you need to check out the real thing -

The necks are 2 very different animals. I originally bought the OLP from da bay at WAY below the normal asking price thinking it would be a project guitar. 2 years later, it rarely sees the light of day cuz I just can't get into the neck. As lock-ny said, its not as wide or thin as the EBMM... which is why I don't like it (sorry lock :) ), as I started out playing classical guitar. Interestingly, I think the smaller width of the neck will be advantageous for a young'in with small hands. I plan on giving mine to my nephew one of these days if he sticks with the guitar.

Bottom line... the OLP is a nice starter guitar so cheers to a good uncle and happy shredding to the nephew.

You're a great uncle! If the kid is that talented, spoil him. The OLP will suit him great for at least a while!
