i have an ebmm luke and when i play it when my hands are sweaty, little
bits of the wood grain seem to come off the back of the neck. is there
that ebmm uses birchwood casey gunstock oil - would i use that?
As to how it should look or feel.. if the neck looks or feels too raw, it probably is. But you also have to consider, it will never look like a poly or nitro finished neck. You can achieve a rich gloss, however, if you like that look and feel. You have more control of that stuff with oil/wax finishes.
My own preference is to retain the natural woody feel, so I don't oil/wax/buff the heck out of mine. Just enough to seal and protect the wood. Same with Wonder Wipes, I use them sparingly.
The neck does feel raw when it comes from the factory.
I noticed that after you have played it a while the neck starts feeling "Microscopically" rough.
Just use a piece of 2000 grit wet and dry (used dry) and it will get back to being smooth again.
After a while you can use a small amount of bircwood casey gunstock oil to keep it sealed.
Not too much wax though, as it will take on a very shiny lustre which although looking great will not be the finish as it left the factory.
