I do like the Reflex shape, but the EBMM lineup more than likely caters for taste in shape as well as sound.

I personally like the Big Al shape over the Reflex, but thats not saying in a few years I might try a Reflex as well.

I think the current EBMM lineup is one of the strongest out there, certainly the most exciting! Everything from the standard 4 string single H Ray to the Bongo 6 and now the Big Al/Reflex!

Not assuming anything, just curious what other think. Putting an MBA hat on and trying to understand how the line-up of basses will be tiered from a product differentiation perspective. On the face of it -- not yet seeing how the Reflex will be distinguished from the Big Al. For example, the Bongo and Stingray are very well differentiated in terms of tone and electronics -- so they can occupy the same price point. Just trying to get dialed-in on the Big Al vs. Reflex since electronically they appear to be very similar, as best as I can tell. If they are similar in tone and electroncs, then the differentiation, may indeed, be in the detail work with the Reflex commanding a higher price? Just a conversation....
Keeping that MBA hat on for a moment, I believe that even of the basses are similar tonally, the shape/form factor is a major differentiator.

There are people for whom the Big Al simply won't be aesthetically pleasing and I think that the Reflex is a perfect alternative. Very similar electronics in a totally different package. Smart move for EBMM.

Plus they have different necks.... Big Al: Sterling neck shape, Reflex: Bongo neck shape

That's more or less the same discussion as you could have with the StingRay and Sterling: They're quite similar, yet different. Playing them will tell you which one you like better.

Converting British sterling to USD for the Reflex, and looking at other sources for MM suggested retail pricing, I'm making an educated guess at a suggested retail pricing tiering, as follows:

Sterling HH, SR4HH, Bongo 4HH: $2150
Big Al 4SSS: $2525
Reflex 4HH: $3100
25th 4HH: $3600

That places the Reflex smack-dab in the middle of the Big Al and 25th suggested retail. The Reflex will be, then, the new top-of-the-line production bass (with the 25th production ended). Not a peer to the Big Al, but a step up the line.

Just my theory.... Hope its OK to discuss suggested retail prices...

Good point on the neck shape. The SR and Sterling occupy the same price point but are differentiated by neck dimensions. I was thinking the Big Al and Reflex might share the same price point and be differentiated likewise. But I'm now guessing the Reflex will be at a higher price point.

Yes oli@bass is right, both the 25th and the Reflex have a Bongo shaped neck contour, albeit not 24 frets like the Bongo.

Similar neck radius as the Stingray also - the 25th and Bongo necks feel v similar to my Rays - are they the same dimensions or thereabouts?

I just had a look at those UK Reflex prices  v nice looking bass though - vintage sunburst especially.

Oh, I see the shape is the same, but 22 frets, ...OK now it's perfectly clear, thanks guys!

By the way, I played a Bongo and really like that neck shape, mmm, ...one more reason to buy a reflex! :)

Certainly don't need one, but I made it my screensaver as a motivational tool.
Except mine will be a 5 banger and I think an HH.(really hard decision) natural headstock and I wish a tinted neck which would be freakin' sick and if it's possible to do post production it will be done.

I know it's a bass thread, but I'll use my new Reflex guitar to justify the looks of the black bass:

If there had been a Reflex 5 bass there my visit Saturday may have ended differently.
