I just bought a new dvd today, its an instructional one from Johnny A. Yes yes i know he plays a Gibson, and i wasnt expecting any ball action, but the bass player was using a Bongo, in a cool graphite pearl finish, sparkly greyish look.

Really cool dvd too, great playing and the tunes were nice, would be better if Johnny played a ball of course, his tone was average.

THEN!!!!!!! to top it off, it included a bonus performance by ALBERT LEE!!! GOLD! It was Fun Ranch Boogie, with BP on bass. I already have the dvd it came from, but what a bonus and a fluke, of all the extras to have it was Albert.

Johnny A. average tone? Where does that leave the rest of us? I guess Eric Johnson has an average tone too. IMHO Johnny's tone is excellent, and I've heard him perform live twice. His guitar is completely hollow, and a work of art. I own the hardtail version, and it's my favorite piece. Solid woods throughout, and a thoughtful design. I can cover hollow/semi-hollow jazz, blues, and rock guitar tones.

I like the DVD, its not the typical "lick #1, 2, etc." type lesson, but a discussion of his music and performance techniques. The Albert Lee performance is amazing too. I have the "Highlights" version of his lesson. Enjoy! His new live CD will be out this Spring.

I was wondering if Jesse's Bongo is Egyptian Smoke? Nice color. I met him after the gig, but forgot to ask. He also has a Buttercream! A great player and friendly person.

Lately, on the gigs they've been running direct to board if the house has a quality PA. Johnny was using two Marshall MP1 preamps and going DI to FOH. He never uses guitar cabs. He's using the TC Electronic G System with a few overdrive pedals and a wah.

They had just returned from a European tour opening for Satriani. I'd like to see him get a spot on a future G3 tour. For anyone reading, check out is band.

Johhny A plays down the street from my house, he's a local New Englander. :)

But the last time he played I was in Dallas. :(
