I'd like to propose a thread where we can post all our recordings, and list what guitar was used, as a future reference for others who would like to hear what the guitars sound like. Try to be as detailed as possible (strings, guitar, pickups, recording setup etc etc...) so the listener will know what they're listening to.

I'll go first:

Silhouette SSS trem with Fender CS69s into a PODXTLive - (Little Wing Instrumental)
SoundClick artist: Demioblue - page with MP3 music downloads

20th Anniversary Silo RW Trem/piezo with PAF Joe and Steve's Special into a PODXTLive
SoundClick artist: Demioblue - page with MP3 music downloads

20th Anniversary Silo Maple Trem Stock pups (Virtual PAFs) into a PODXTLive
SoundClick artist: Demioblue - page with MP3 music downloads

JP6 with Steve's Special into a PODXTLive
SoundClick artist: Demioblue - page with MP3 music downloads

All strings used are Ernie Ball RPS Slinkys 10s

Lets add to this thread guys... (mods, can we sticky this?)

Awesome Idea!

I'm thinking though, for this to really work with great merit, should we try to think of some guidelines for submissions? Such as all clips must be recorded with flat eq and no modulation effects?

I know playing "dry" is one of the hardest things to do, but I think it would really make this thread stand out as a great source for EBMM comparisons. Any ideas?

Here are mine. All of them were recorded with my EBMM JP6 Lava Pearl with the original stock pickup. Ernie Ball 10 gauge strings. All of them were recorded with my Mesa Boogie Mark IV short head and Bogner oversized 2x12. I tried to post as many clips as I could that show its diversity:

Pink Floyd - Time: http://www.netmusicians.org/files/22-Time.mp3

Doobie Brothers- China Grove: http://www.netmusicians.org/files/100-China Grove.mp3

Joe Satriani - War: http://www.netmusicians.org/files/53-War (final).mp3

Dokken - Mr Scary: http://www.netmusicians.org/files/37-Mr Scary (Final).mp3

Dream Theater - Pull Me Under: http://www.netmusicians.org/files/3-Pull Me Under (rough 1).mp3

Rush - Red Barchetta: http://www.netmusicians.org/files/89-Red Barchetta (Final 1).mp3

Joe Satriani - Ten Words: http://www.netmusicians.org/files/1-Ten Words (Final).mp3

Ratt - Round and Round (solo turned out pretty good on this one): http://www.netmusicians.org/files/32-Round and Round (256).mp3

Whitestrat, your clips are awesome! Gibson, all your clips are great, but I absolutely love your Red Barchetta clip.

And with what Universe said, I agree it would be cool for this to be like some kind of sound comparison type of thread comparing the sounds of different balls or something along those lines.

Normally, I'd agree. But then, it also boils down to how well the guitar stands out in the mix. For my case, there was no EQ, and no actual post production mix. It was just layed onto the PC, slight volume adjustments, and then meshed as one file. I'm using a low end audio editor called Goldwave. It's not even a proper recording software like Cubase, Pro Tools or Band In A Box.

So, in my clips, what you hear is really what you get. Plus the fact that it's been compressed by the PODXTLive. and reduced to 128kbps. So if the guitar sounds really open and clear, that means it really is like that...:D

Submitted for the "reference" thread: BFR-F1. In an effort to keep the sound of the guitar as pure as possible this has been recorded 100% dry. Which me, being me...was REALLY hard to do.

A stock epi Valve Jr. close mic'd directly into the computer and that's all she wrote.

A pre-emptive apology to the spirit of Jimi-'Cause we all know if he don't see us no more in this world he'll meet us in the next.

Thanks, Ponch man!

Laneys get no respect :p. I have 2 identically set up ones (combo and head/cab) and dug em for years.

Which Laney are you using?
