EBMM Steve Morse Pickup Height

I took delivery 2 days ago. I'm playing it alot as to break in the guitar, as I know the neck may shift a bit. I drove to San Luis to play one before odering..because although I am a HUGE MOrse fan..I had not played this guitar beofre and even though it had all the things I wanted in a main guitar, I still wasn't sure. Would'nt you know the neck and the frets feel so incredible! So right off I notice how this machine CHIMES. Its loud...I mean the whole guitar resonates like crazy not connected to anything. My question is about the pickups...as I have read that some people say that these should be lowed way down...others closer like a 1/4" to strings. What do those of you who have had the Morse Model for awhile think? Tommy? Thanks folks!

Hey there,

Isnt the Morse model the most amazing guitar ever! Anyhow when i got it i assumed the pickups had to be high for more output. However Steve has them very low just a bit higher than flush to the guitar. I tried lowering them thinking it would make the guitar less articulate with high gain sounds, however it improoves the tone dramatically. You get a much sweeter sound.

Morse pickups are designed to sit low on the guitar as they are quite high output.

take my advice man ' lower those suckers right down'

The neck pickup on No1 is pretty much flush to the body so that it is flat. He even filled in the gap around the pickup with plolyfiller to increase sustain.

i keep my pickups lower than most folks. especially the single coil ones. i like the magnets to be far enough away from the strings so the pitch does't get distorted by the magnetic pull of the magnets in the pickups.
someone just posted some q & a stuff w/ steve explaining the concept of his using all the many various pickups & combinations to primairly control your amp gain by switching through a broad range of pickups & combinations of pickups .
