I purchased EBMM Stingray 5 bass from local store for my son in 1999. It has serial number of E07554 and I was told it was a prototype for new color scheme. Is there a way to tell that from serial number and the guitar is in EXCELLENT shape but I don't know what it is worth?

It doesn't appear to be a prototype of anything. It does appear to be a black sparkle, which was discontinued not long after that bass was produced. That may make it more appealing to those who like the sparkle finishes, although no one has any concrete proof that it will actually increase the value just yet.

A used Stingray 5 in great shape will go anywhere from 800 to maybe 1000 dollars, depending on the market and the economy.

YaY! Black sparkle!

Indeed. If you even decide to get rid of it you won't have a problem there!
Many lovers of the good old sparkle finish here!

Go for it!

Jesus Christ!!!

Come to my country, You can get 1200 euros for this baby! ;)

Music Mans are most valuable second hand basses over here, You can't lose more than 10% of new bass price, never! :)

I smell a good business in this, export second hand Music Mans over here, and open second hand shop somewhere in rich part of EU, in Germany for example! :p

It doesn't. Actually they sell rather badly. I had a pristine black sparkle up for sale and waited almost 2 years until it sold (at a very decent local price!)

You're lucky. In Germany and Switzerland you're looking at a loss of 30-50% on street price (which is generally less than 10% below retail, if at all), for certain rare models even more! E.g. if you want to sell a 25th, you'll probably get 40% of what you paid for it -- which is more or less the used price in the US plus shipping plus taxes.
