I think the most important part of a guitar is the neck. I remember being shocked at how perfect the JP neck is, after years of playing a strat with "strat" action (high). When I bought my JP6 in November, I went looking at some of the high end mfrs, and wasn't impressed by anything other than the flamed finishes and tops, nice for hanging on the wall, but for playing EBMM is the all around best player's guitar.

In all fairness, I partially agree that EBMM guitars play better than most mid range stuff, but my new PRS leaves everything behind in terms of build quality, playability and versatility. I still love my EBMMs, but have been shocked at the quality difference with PRS. Sorry to be controversial... ;)

Which model? Which neck?

I've got a $2600 custom 24 natural quilted ten top with birds & wide thin neck.

That I haven't touched since July :(

It's a beauty, and a fine instrument...and I probably won't sell it.

But I prefer my Lukes ;)

I had a Custom 24 w/ 10 top and birds. I sold it because my $800 SG kicked its ass. My Sport and Super Sport play better as well. I had to dress the frets 3 times on the PRS to get it to play right.

I have a Singlecut Trem with birds etc. The reason I rate it above my EVH is that the EVH is spectacular at one thing - rock?blues wheras the PRS can do justice to loads of styles. And it looks amazing...

I also love my JP6. The neck is a dream! Sound and playability is second to none.
Well, almost, because nothing will knock my SCTrem out of first place! :)

(*Now has a Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge)

Sure it's purdy. But it plays a sounds just perfect.

However, EBMM are top quality guitar for less money. And that's AOK in my book!

i also have a prs that i love. i have a mccarty but put a dragon II in the bridge to give it more sack.

the PRS beats the crap out of my les paul and it rendered my $800 SG useless (sorry Jon) so i sold it.

im now on the verge of playing guitars in a band (im a bassist) and really gotta get off my arse and go check out some of the EB guitars. I played my ex-bandmates Axis Super Sport a few times and my (not too educated) impression so far is that I really didn't like it at all :( .

i thinking the Silo would be a cool axe. as far as the other models go:
- i wanna give the Axis and Axis SS a fair shake.
- i dont think I'd buy any of the sig guitars b/c ive got this wierd thing about having other peoples' names on my guitar (especially artists who im not a fan of)

I understand you may have a sig issue but with the variety of neck profiles, pick up selections/configurations etc. you may be cutting yourself short if you don't at least pick one up and play it. It may surprise you and give your the exact feel, playability and sound your looking for. You can always cover the name up with a little dukk tape. Remember, a Les Paul is also a sig model, its just a really old sig. ;)

Yeah, so's a McCarty ;)

The Petrucci only has a sgnature on the headstock, which is really unobstrusive. And if it plays good, who cares, really?

ya ... im definately aware that the Les Paul is a sig model ... but its become such a "staple" that it doesnt "feel" like its a sig to me anymore. i mean slash and vakk wylde have their own sig les pauls ... so do they have a sig sigs? like you sed, the LP is such an old sig that its not a sig anymore.

as far as the necks go: ive read a lot on this board about the diff necks; and being the owner of an sr4 and a sterling i know that eb makes "drastically" diff neck profiles for their instruments. but i really just cant get over the "someone ive never heard play has their name on my guitar" thing. id even go so far as to say that many, especially younger players, feel the same way.

Here is my humble opinion on this PRS vs. EBMM debate. I bought an EBMM Axis SS w/ MM90s. A few months after that purchase I picked up a PRS Custom 24 w/ Artist Package. Well, today I have one less PRS and one more EBMM, an Albert Lee model. The PRS just wasn't what EBMM was: pure tone and playablilty.

I think it is really up to the person who gets the guitar....some of the great guitar heroes we worhip did not play on EBMM. Simple as that. My reason for getting a JP (and the others that followed) are really simple....it fit me perfectly. No other guitar has done that except for one and that is a custom that even a PRS Private Stock could not touch...of course, this is only my opinion. I think PRS are great sounding guitars, I just have not found one that I have played that I could see buying. Not their fault, just the way it is. I could care less about the sig on the thing. Really, Petrucci is a great guitarist, but not in my top 5. So for me, the signature on the headstock meant nothing. It sure as hell doesn't mean I can play like him......

So, I think that blue PRS is absolutely gorgeous and if it works for you, wonderful.

But, I do believe this to be true.....in the price range of EBMM, there are no others out there that compare. I will even say, some of the boutique ones don't compare as for playability, tone, sustain, looks, and feel.

Now, the best part is, EBMM Customer Service cannot be beat by any of the companies mentioned period. We are spoiled on this forum and that is a good thing when someone like jongitarz comes on the forum to help us out. He does this on his time. I, for one, thank him for it all the time. Thanks bro!
