Hey all,

After playing my Sterling 4H now I am really loving this bass. My question is this. Does anyone know what the approximate weight is of all of the Music Man basses are? Eventually I would like to add a Stingray, Bongo and Big Al in at least 4 string and maybe 5 string too but was wondering what each model weighs.

Ditto. Generally tending to be heavier.

That's what I have noticed with most of them that I have played. My Sterling 4H weighs almost the same as my Ibanez Soundgear basses and as a result, I really like it. Plus it sounds great and plays incredibly well but I was playing an identical bass at Guitar Center a few months back. The only difference was that is was a 5 HH configuration but I swear that thing was as heavy as a tank. I was expecting a little extra weight for the extra string but on this bass it was a very noticeable difference. I am really starting to love Music Man basses and plan on buying many more but my only negative issue is some seem to weigh a lot. On my future ones, I plan on purchasing them from a few of the online places that sell them and have really good reputations but because they will be ordered and then sent to shipped to me, I will have no opportunity to test their weight first. Oh well, even though I don't like the weight on some of the basses, if that is what it takes to get that good of a sound and that quality of a bass then I guess it is worth it. These really are great instruments!

As I get older, I find that instrument weight is of more concern. My shoulder just cannot take three to four sets with a heavy bass anymore.

Couldn't agree more. I have a Metal Flake SR5 which sounds and plays great but I just don't want to handle the weight anymore.

EB MM basses are top quality instruments. I just wish that they weren't as heavy!

There are also some light-ish ones out there though. Take a look at the The Perfect Bass website - they list the weight for all the EBs they have in stock. Great service!
