Well I did mention it earlier - I saw a great covers band here in Cardiff. Guitarist used an Axe fx live and effortlessly changed pre sets during the gig. A lot of wedge for that functionality. Thats why I advocate a cheaper option - the Line 6. Heck, you could get a second hand XT for £60 and a double pedal FB floorboard for £100. Job done for the price of 1 - 2 pedals.

Later versions of the Line6 are available for more but IMO the XT and FBV just cover your bases.
Other brands with similar functionality of the XT will do it too e.g. Boss

Hello

The ZOOM MS-50G can be a good choice. It's cheap (95 €), easy to program and offers most of the effects we need.
I have it on my pedalboard. I don't use it much (I have an EHX Memory Man with Hazarai, an EHX Freeze, an EHX Ravish Sitar, an EHX Boost ... well a lot of EHX pedals ! But also a tremolo and some dirt boxes) but it can save my life if one of my other pedals fails.

KevinUK, you are from Bordeaux ??

I had the Nova system as well and found live situations to be quite complex if i needed to change on the fly...

I ended up going with Corona Chorus and have tweaked it with the tone print editor... you can reassign the knob functions too...

I use a strymon for my tremolo and reverb (Flint)

and i use TC Nova Delay (ib modified) for my delay

from my experience - the strymon stuff is really impressive - but have heard that the mobius and timeline are a bit complicated to tweak but once you dial it in it's fantastic. (once again i've not owned the mobius or timeline)

Eventide is equally impressive but if you're jumping into that pond you might as well kick out the few extra bucks for the sermon

I'd say go for the TC tone print pedals too, they are great, and have physical knobs so you can tweak them on the spot without having to dig into some digital menus.

I will admit that multi-effects do tend to sound way different in bedroom practice versus real life full-on band practice/performance. I think that's why I love the the GT-100 using the 4CM; The signal CAN'T be messed up really since I'm not using any models/preamps from the unit so as long as the master volume knob on the GT is at 12 o'clock, I know that it's the same volume as if I were plugging direct in.

I think simple vs complex effects is extremely relative to any situation. I've had a pretty righteous pedalboard:

but I began to feel as though PEDALS became too complicated! I've had a PodHD500 for a couple years now and have an on-again, off-again relationship with it. I think it's because the gain structure is so confusing. There's just no way to find true unity, even using the 4CM.

On the stompbox front I've been very happy with the Wampler Sovereign distortion, the MXR EVH series Flange and Phase pedals, as well as the Vox Time Machine delay.

I got a Zoom MS-50G (cheaply) to my pedalboard as the end of the send-effect chain as a backup in case my main rig ever malfunctioned and I had to plug into a PA with amp simulations. Works well and I started using the built-in effects, some of them sound really, really good. No issues with my pedalboard, either, which is a combination of analog and digital pedals, but most up-front pedals before amp are analog.
