Is there anyway of getting a new BFR JP6 in emerald burst? I know its discontinued, but I can't see buying a used one (or new old stock) and having to change out the pickups to the new JP pups. I seem to always have some issue once the electronics are changed out... I'd rather get a guitar the way I want from the factory.

Might get ahold of Customer Service. See if they can tell you if one was ordered with the new pups before they were discontinued. Might also check the BFR picture thread to see if there have been any Emerald ones since the new pups.

If it's discontinued man, the only way you can get one is to find a dealer that has a NOS (New/Old Stock) one. I'd say contact CS to assist you in locating one, but with NAMM this week, not your is they'll be able to help you out. You could wait until next week and give them a try.

Good luck, Glenn |B)

The second one definitely has the D-Sonic and Custom neck. DCGL has had that one for a while.

Cool! Thanks for passing along the info. With the guitar being at DCGL for awhile, maybe dcmguitar might be able to get a really good deal if he's interested.

Just for the records - what is wrong with the "older" BFR and the PUs in them, besides the fact that John doesn't use them anymore?

Have You tried them out and found it to be not what You expect (and if so, how could the liquifire and the crunch lab be that much better, since they go into the same direction)?

There is nothing 'wrong' with any of the pickup combos John has used. All my JPs have different pickups, but their basic tone is the same. Yes, there are differences, but it's not like one sounds like a strat.

That's exactly what I'm pointing at. So why is it "having to change the PUs" - just because John switched for them now?

Is it buying a great guitar or buying what John plays :)? For that matter, the newer and the older BFR PUs look the same...

Changing pickups is pretty easy. You could get one, see if you like the stock pickups, and if not change them out.

Nothing wrong with the pickups, nope haven't tried it out to know if i don't like it. Although i have played the newer ones. I've seen that DCGL has had that listed for a while, could always try the deal route, but i like to play the guitars first.. and take a look at em in person. I do like that new car smell thing (new guitar smell) as well. I am just trying to research and see if its possible or if i'd have to get one of the older ones that are still around.

Regarding changing pickups, I'd rather have it out of factory the way i want, rather than take it to someone (or do it myself, especially on a nice expensive guitar)
I have brought a few guitars to different shops and had pickups swapped and some issue always crops up, or the finish gets dinged or something.

Just as an FYI, I've bought 3 guitars from DCGL and they are fantastic to deal with. They will professionally set up the guitar with the exact gauge strings you want and the tuning you want so it's ready to play right out of the box. Good people over there.

I've bought 4 from them. Jason is great to deal with. I choose not to have my guitars set up by them, though. Not that they don't do a good job, I just enjoy doing that work myself.

Yes, can't disagree with that. I like tinkering with guitars though and don't have a single one that is stock.
