SInce a couple of weeks I have a MM Luke and I like it a lot.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is that there's a significant difference in volume between the single coils and the humbucker.
Most guitars with single coils and a humbucker have the option of splitting the humbucker pickup.
Is that possible with the EMG 85? Maybe there's a replacement that still sounds like the 85 in my Luke?

You can't split the 85. Get 89 - souds exactly like 85 in humbucker mode , but can be split by push-pull tone pot .Sounds really nice-i love it ! :)
Also, try googlin' John Suhr M.K. mod.

The EMG 89 is taller and the Luke having direct mounted pickups I doubt it will fit without some modification done to the guitar.

Haven't noticed the difference between 85 and 89 measures...Replaced it easily, just asked my fellow guitar tech to make coil splitting available via lever switch.Besides that,no mods done to the guitar
I am really happy with the outcome, always missed that strat type single coil sound out of the regular Luke-now is perfect for me :)!

Hmmm. I've replaced the 85 for an 89 in both a Luke I and Luke II without issue. They seemed to be the same height.

It's the 81TW that's much taller [5.6mm I think]. The 89 is the same from what I remember.
