Hi!

Recently I found out about the EMG 9V-->18V mod and I wanted to have it on my Luke, but unfortunately there is no enough space for two batteries and I don't want to modify my Luke's body.

I just wanted to get rid of this typical sterilized EMG sound...

I've been advised by a friend to install an EMG 81 X (EMG 81 from the X series) pickup, replacing my EMG 81 pickup in the bridge position.

Will I have a similar effect with the above mentioned EMG mod? At least will I get a more "organic" sound? What do you think?

Oh, by the way; I mainly use the Luke for heavier stuff (heavy and thrash metal).

Thank you in advance.

the X has had mixed reviews and it's supposed to be more organic. I'm ordering one for my Luke dargie so I'll tell you how it goes:)

I changed pickup for EMG SLVX & EMG 85X .
When I compare it with regular EMG, as for the X series, a response is early, and dynamic range feels wide, and a response more is early.
The response depending on the strength and weakness of the performance is great.
I think that it is the pickup that a good part of the active pickup was blended with passive pickup.

"X"is SUPER NATURAL !!

VLPF of the tone circuit is GOOD for a great response.
The wiring changed only a tone and changed some wiring.

I have used it with EMG 85 as 18V specifications
It is a powerful, pleasant sound

In any case each is great pickups!.

I am certainly interested to hear some more about the 18 V mod for the current EMGs in the LUKE. Can anyone elaborate on this a little bit further? I have read a bit, but wanted to see if anyone tried this on their LUKEs?
