That's going to require gouging out some wood..... and/or filing down the EMG...
Actually, I had my tech checked it out. The two screw base will have to be shorten on the EMG, and a bit of shimming for getting the correct height. No drilling into the wood.
wow, I didn't think this would provoke reactions lol. The Lukes comes with EMG, why not the JP?
I actually came to the conclusion that the D-Sonic and the Custom has got to go. Also have a JP50 with Crunch Lab/Liquid Fire. I tried a lot of different sets before setting on the EMG 81/60 set. But really, I'm open to any suggestions.

I am not a fan of EMGs, but it all depends on the sound you're going for.

When somebody mentions EMGs, I wince a little, expecting the usual comments, "these are sterile, those are organic". It's a tired 30-year old cliché.
Listen to Lukather's tone on his last two solo albums? How is that not organic? What about David Gilmore? Or Dean Wells!
Trust nobody's ears but your own. Your fingers, your guitar, your pickups, your amp, it's all unique. Find the sound you like, and stop worrying about what somebody else once said about this brand or that.

Thanks man, the EMG are on their way. I agree with all your comments, Luke has it in his models, that guy knows a bit about tone, right?
I actually did a lot of pickup testing, but I just want to hear what you guys have to say. There are some really knowledgable guys here.
I should say that on my other EMG equipped guitars, they do sound much better after I got it modded up to 18V. the sound is less compressed and more open.

There's an Andy James video I stumbled across where he has his jp6 with emgs
Go for whatever you want! Just try to avoid modification to the guitar itself. Make the pickups fit into the original cavities so that you can undo the mod if you don't like the results. Pickups are not that expensive, so why not?

Hey Tung- I wasn't a fan of the Crunch Lab either, I don't blame you for wanting something brighter with more output, as I did. I'd HIGHLY reccommend just plopping down the dough on a Bare Knuckle. Sounds absolutely phenomenal. No routing, and I get much more tone than I would have from an EMG.

You could try a DiMarzio D-Activator or whatever. They're based on an active design.
Yes, I did chat with you on your BKP mod link. The only thing is I just can't hear the BKP anywhere, so I'm hesitant to install them without able to try any out first.
I already have the EMGs on the way, so I'll just drop them in. No big deal, can pull them if I don't like it. I already to told my tech that I don't want any drilling/routing at all, keep it all stock.
It does sound pretty good actually. Thanks for posting it.
It's a little too metal for me, I would be going for more of a Lukather tone with the EMG.

Owhoops, forgot that you had commented in there... my bad!
The only trouble you'll run into is the shape of the tabs. If you look at your JP6, you'll see the pickups, being DiMarzio, have the DiMarzio triangle tabs, and the EMGs have standard square tabs. You'll have to cut the tabs to fit the routs.
