Have any Luke owners replaced the stock EMG's for passives,if so how does it sound?
I'm finding the clinical sound of the EMG's a bit hard to get used to.
Everything else about the guitar ROCKS!!

It was just my guitar tech, l took my guitar in for a servise, and he saw it was a Luke, and he started to talk about how he had a Luke, but he had SD pickups in it, and he thought they sounded better, with the SD pickups, but l love the sound of the Luke the way it is.

As l've said, l've never heard a Luke with Passive pickups, l just thought l'd relay to you what l had heard.

MMMM.....very interesting, certainly the guitar is such good quality that i could only imagine it sounding awsome with a set of Kinmans or the like.
Cheers for the info!

Hey Ron, nice to see you over here. I thought you were considering a pickup swap out when you talked about your jam with you Luke over on the Intermusic forums :D !

You know that we'll all suggest you put Bare Knuckles in your Luke II over there, so I'll tell you the same over here!! They've just started selling HSS sets and Tim will be more than happy to suggest the best pickups for your style of music and that guitar. Something like an Emerald in the bridge would be nice, or a Miracle Man for more oomph!

Remember that when you fit passive pickups, you'll need to change the volume and tone pots for the correct values. IIRC, EMGs use 25k pots whereas passive pups use either 250k or 500k pots.

The concern I have with replacing the EMGs with passives is that the single coils won't fit because of the little triangular bit that the wires connect to. EMGs (maybe other actives brands) don't have that little protrusion and consequently the Luke doesn't have space for it routed in the pickup cavity.

Do passive pickup manufacturers produce single coil pickups without the protrusion?

Thanks for that Bowks! ;)
Sorry i haven't replied sooner but i have'nt been here for a few weeks.
The Bareknuckles defo seem to be getting some great feedback so i'll look into them.
I have a set of Kinmans on my Levinson Blade which are fantastic so i'll probably take a look at getting a set of them also.

I am definately a passive pup guy myself, but I kept the EMG's in my black sparkle Luke.
But........
I did change out the 85 for an 81 and it sounds a million times better.
