So the EMG single coils, SLV (luke's), S series, SA series etc. they all have bar magnets like the air norton above. Im wondering if anyone knows how prominent those magnets are, if they didnt have the black cap, would they be as broad as the air norton above? does anyone know?

background to the question; ive come to the conclusion that there exists no 7-string single coil pickup that comes close to the luke pickups :(

if you centre an air-norton (6 string single coil) in a 7 string, the bar magnets actually lay behind all 7 strings, i havent tried this, and i fear that perhaps the highest and lowest strings might be a little faint. so my hope is that a EMG SLV in the neck position might just work.
considering the love i have for lukes pickups, i consider it worth investigating

Of course if it turns out that EMGs have shorter bar magnets than air nortons and the like, then itll be even less feasible an idea, which takes us back to the above question.

Might work,

If i were you and i wanted a great 7 string single coil I would Buy a second hand blaze pickup for 30 bucks or whatever they go for and send it to Bareknuckle pickups. They will do rewinds for 40 pounds. Plus you can have Tim voice it to whatever voicing you like. Then you would have a killer 7 string single coil for i dunno 100 -120 depending where you are.
