Myself and several other forumites have replaced the EMGs on our Lukes with various passive pickups, but I read that EMG have got a new range called the X series that sound more like traditional pickups.

Has anybody heard these? Or is anybody going to swap their Luke pickups for the new models?

(The one thing I do miss with the EMGs was the lack of hum. Those SLVs were great... in a way... no point crying over spilt milk and getting all nostalgic!!! haha)

EMGs amp the input up to a maximum which acts like a limiter. the normal EMGs are designed to hit this maximum as easilly as possible, so that hi distortion used for lines on one string doesn't turn to mush with multiple strings. the EMG X reduces this effect. the output is more proportional to the number of strings used (or pick attack) and sounds more like a passive.
