Hey guys! I'm just thinking of putting EMG's on my SUB1 (81/85 specifically). I really enjoy the benifits of my LUKE (recording/live). No hassles at all! Kindly leave your opinions about this! Thanks!:)

If you don't want opinions you shouldn't have put it here:rolleyes: Anyway that's what I think.:)

EMG's on a SUB, HMMMMMM let me think. ;)
Yessir! I think I like it. That's my opinion. :D

I have EMG'd 4 SiLOs and loved em all.

I hope the attempt at humor was not unwelcome

I've had EMG 85s in my SUB1. You'll enjoy the benefits of EMGs, but be aware that it won't sound like a Luke. The similarities will be greater than the differences, in my opinion, but there will be differences. Whether it is better or worse is subjective--you'll have to decide for yourself.

I've more or less started a SUB collection here. EMGs were going to go into my next sub... 81 and 60 for me... Let us knowhow it sounds! I think it would sound KILLER!

Why not?

The only disadvantage that comes to my mind is the replacement of the battery having it installed under the pickguard. Due to the lack of the easy access battery compartment that might be a little inconvenient.
But there shouldn't be any hassles tonewise!

I like EMGs (edit: the 81 only in the neck position), but I think the stock pups on the SUB are great. When I had my SUB, I didn't even think of putting other pups in it, the stock ones sounded awesome.

I've got to agree here, the stock ones are awesome but I prefer passive for more natural sound. EMG's have some advantages, more output and less noise. I'd say if you really love the sound of them, then go for it.

I wonder if the stock ones can be wired to split the coils from both like on a Petrucci model in the center position? Anyone know how to do it?

A slight disadvantage....but I have EMGs on my bass and the battery tends to last a year or so.

Thanks guys! Hey, how about 89(neck), 81tw(bridge)? I'm thinking of these two since they can be coil-tapped. Have anyone of you tried doing this? Are the connections not too complicated?

Great day everyone!
