For distorted guitar rock (Boston, Journey, Rush, etc), I am finding the HI mid knob on my Bongo to be quite useful. Any thoughts from others and ideas why this may be the case? I have my theories.

The bass knob seems great for solo stuff, but is less useful in live situations imho. The two mid knobs, the pickup pan and volume knobs are becoming the most important tools in subtly "sculpting" my tone.

(The piezo is useful too, but seeing as I'm in the minority with it, I don't want to muddy the waters with that discussion.)

Don't forget Hi-Mids and 50% piezo - 50% mag is your brother when played on the bridge pickup fully dialed in.

In fact I'd give a 20% boost on the high mid and turn the treble down a step or two. With a 50% bass boost, this I find it to be an arsenal of power and attack all into one. BOOMtastic!

Just for clarification, by "50% bass boost" do you mean from the center detent boost by 50%?

Thanks and welcome back

Yes matey, 50% over the flat, works for me for when I need super attack. I hardly ever touch the eq on my amp.

Thanks Grand Wazoo. Just tried it in my practice room - I like it. I'm definitely looking for something I can use that doesn't require me to tweak the amp as I want the signal going to the PA live to get a similar sound.

I'm using flats and you've inspired me to try variations on this setting. I'm finding the following works too (amazing how much change the pickup pan makes!):

Pick pan 75% neck 25% Bridge
50% piezo/ 50% mag
Lo Mid center detent
Hi Mid boosted 40%
Bass boosted 50%
Treble center detent.

Very bassy but seems to cut through mixes for most of what I'm trying to achieve. The more distorted guitars in the mix, the more bridge pickup I dial in and "viola" :)
