Hey,

So i got my Stingray SR4 back from the tech today, and the eq section was completely dead...
The volume pot does work, but not the eq section... any thoughts on this issue?
I opened it up, but i found no loose wires and the battery is good...
Im not a bass player nor super familiar with the stingrays so i just have to make sure there is not a secret switch or knob to turn on any where before i give the tech a call ;)

Thanks!

I am by no means an expert on Stingray repair, however, I've spent a good bit of my life working on all manner of electronics. Since nothing is obvious, that is, no loose or broken wires, I'd take it back to the tech and complain. If it was working before you brought it in, the tech should find the problem and fix it.....in my opinion...at no charge.

Good luck.

Hi Cowboy,

I gave him a call and he said he would have a look at it. Hope its not a big issue. Do you know the price on a new "eq/volume section" ?

No, I don't. I've never had to order one. However, I've gotten great help on several issues from A.J. who works in customer support at EB. Here's his email address: [email protected].

I suggest that you ping A.J. and ask him. If he doesn't know, I bet he knows who does.

It was working before the tech worked on it? I know who I'd be talking to.

However, usually if the volume is working and the EQ isn't, it's a battery-related issue. While you might not be able to see any obvious disconnects, have him take a good look at the battery box connectors.

Hey bovinehost,

Thanks for the battery tip! I opened up the battery box and found out that the connectors was all bent. I bent them back and everything worked just fine!
I am a bit embarrassed right now, hehe! Fortunately i didnt flame my tech ;)

Anyways, thank you guys for helping me, and sorry for wasting your time!

I won't presume to speak for all on this board, but for me, you were not wasting my time. For that matter, I've learned something today. Again, I'm not technically aware of the circuitry, but I made the assumption.....apparently false.....that if the battery was dead (or in this case, the circuit was open) that the volume control would not have worked either. I assumed the volume pot was downstream and in series with the EQ, so if the EQ had no power and did not work, no signal would make it to the volume pot, thereby having no output at all. Obviously, this is not the case.

I have an early production Fender American Deluxe Precision, that is modeled in many ways after the Stingray (passive PUP's with active 3- band EQ). In the case of this P-bass, if the battery is dead or missing (eg, no power to the preamp), there is no output whatsoever. And, I assumed the Stingray would behave the same way.

I guess what I need is a schematic of the circuitry.

Thanks for posting the solution.
