If you're one of those guys who slap flats on their Stingray because you find the treble overbearing then you owe it to yourself to try the coated strings. They sound much darker than the factory issue Super Slinkies yet retain enough of that Stingray zing for your funky, percussive moments. They feel just like Slinkies too!

syci, what's the difference between this Coated Hybrid Slinkies and Coated Regular Slinkies (which I use)?

I'm talking about technical construction of the strings, not the tone, if You got this info?

Hey Danny, what kind of life do you get out of them? I'm interested to try them, but I'm really bad at taking the plunge on new fangled ideas.

The life of them is going to vary between players, depending on how much/hard you play them, but on a whole the advantages of them agains the non-coated slinkys are :
They bed in quicker from new.
Maintain there "new" tone for longer.
Feel nice to the touch compared to other coated strings that i have used in the past (they don't feel greasy/slippery)
And most important sound great!
Trying a set is the only way to find out i guess :)

I have them on Heinz, they've been on there since they first came out, and while I don't play Heinz every day, he gets at least 5hours of playing every week. And the strings hold up like nothing I've ever tried before:)

what's w/ not offering 5 string packs? (lack of market perhaps?) i love hybrid-type strings but begrudgingly use other wraps because sets for 5ers are hard to find.

So the hybrids are a combo of Super Slinkys for the D and G stings (for easier bends, etc) and Regular Slinkys for the E and A strings (for more oomph from the low notes).

EB only offers one gauge B string (.130). If you want a fiver set, just buy the Hybrid 4 string set and a single low B. Same for the flatwounds. Juststrings.com sells a lot of singles if you can't find the .130 from your normal source.

In simple NO. The coating is functional, not decorative so there really isn't anything to peel off.

Ive had the same set on for about a year now so twice as long as non-coated.
I have a set waiting to go on, the only tell-tail signs that they are on there way out is the fret marks on them. no peeling or colour dis figuration at all, or sharp bits.
There sounding dull soon as i first pick the bass up but after a few minutes of playing, the coating warms up and they burst back into life.
