I tried coated 9s slinkys , and I dont know if i quite like them, they bend alot and feel slightly thicker, and have alot less tension on the neck, kinda gumby feeling, the sound is not as pronounced, maybe thats why GC was clearing them out at 2 bucks a pack, lol, no really there not bad, but i think ill go back to my regular super slinky 9s.

If you want to try a killer set of strings I suggest you try the Ernie Ball cobalts.
They are, imho, the best strings out there.
I run 9s on both of my lukes as well as on my axis and they are worth every penny.
Cheers,

Tom

I had a large stash of regular Slinkys because I'd bought in bulk - now I put cobalts on all my nice guitars, and am using up my old regular Skinkys on my beater guitars. :)

I always find this interesting how different people feel strings differently. As far as I know, Coated Slinkys are virtually identical to normal Slinkys in tension and tone. In fact, the plain strings are the same (because EB always use tin-coated high carbon steel for pain strings) but with the titanium reinforcement on the ball end. And the nano-coating on the wound strings is so thin if you didn't know the strings were coated, you wouldn't tell the difference, except that the tone lasts SO much longer than uncoated strings. In fact I have to remind myself to change strings often enough because the tone lasts so long that the strings will break from wear before the tone is lost. They really are quite impressive! :D

Yep, it's great to have so dang many EB string choices out there!!! In fact, all the different type of strings have a "particular" function, (certain guitar, certain style music, etc...); and, while we're on the subject, my ONLY strings I use are the #2253 - sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!

We are all different :)
I'm getting back to coated, I disliked cobalts.
Maybe I'll shift to M steel when I'll be able to try them

Ive had a chance to play these strings for a few days now, and really dont care for them, the harmonics are dull, and they feel much thicker when tapping , hammer ons, pull offs, not my cup o tea. Im goin back to regular super slinky 9s.

This really should have been in the strings section but hey still EBMM and I love the strings, coated strings are great, I found no difference in then vs. regular slinkys but as others have stated everyone is different and feel is important.

Also as stated try Cobalts worth the money!!

So someone should start a poll on favorite stings, not string sizes just the different flavors EBMM makes, my favorite is Cobalt followed by pure nickel

I don't notice that much of a difference, if any, in feel. I do notice that the cobalts have a crisper tone with a great, bright attack. I prefer to use 11s at standard pitch and, on some guitars (especially with darker sounding woods and humbuckers), I notice less articulation than with 10s or 9s. The cobalts are great for me because I can use the heavier gauge that I prefer and I still have a very responsive, articulate sound with fast attack to each note. And the tone lasts and lasts.

Normally we'll move threads to the right place, but it's not a bad idea to have the odd string discussion here. They go on guitars after all ...

Part of the reason that some people post everything in the guitar section is because they think that nobody bothers with the other sections, which is of course because nobody posts there because they think that etc. etc. ... !!

When this discussion has run it's course, I'll move it over. Why? Because people who are looking for string-related info look in the string forum. So please folks, do post in the appropriate place. It actually helps.
