Hey guys and gal's , I just got in a repair for a Ernine Ball music man stingray, and need to know what it is i'm dealing with.

It's a black body with a silver glitter finish and maple neck, two massive humucker pickup's and the compensated nut.

It has the logo on the head stock which says Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray , and has 5 knobs with a 5-position switch, active controls ?

The serial on the back is E35206, since it has the prefix then it can't be to old.

Cheers all.

I repair stringed instruments and a client brought it in, it's electrics are knackerd or disturbed. Four of the five knobs work, as does the 5-posistion switch and the semi passive switch , but the fourth knob is dead.

Just wanted some info on it such as it's year and it's type of active cercuit, for easier parts finding.

On a Stingray if the 5 knob configuration is stock, then you most likely have a piezo pickup in the bridge and one of the knobs blends the piezo in with the magnetic pickups. Is there a coverplate on the back of the bass behind the bridge and does the bass have piezo saddles?

There is a plate on the back but not saddle, unless I missunderstood what you said. Like I said it's electrics naffed so I'm hoping it's jus that pot that needs tweaking or replacing.. apparently someone left it in a field after a festivle for three days then came to get it.. needing a "setup" is an understatement.

No 5-knob Ray is supposed to have dual
magnetic PU's becuz ....

5 knobs means a factory piezo option
and ....

factory piezo equipped Rays never have
dual magnetic PUs.

I would politely decline to work on such
an ax unless I had overriding reasons to
feel obligation toward the owner. If I had
to work on such a thing I'd want money
up front.

Concerning the plate on the back. A plate
that indicates a factory piezo model will
be a small plate directly behind the bridge
to access the trim pots for each saddle. It
won't be a large plate like many basses
have behind the control knob area.
