Well, OLP guitars are produced in China, and ARE NOT made by Ernie Ball Music Man. OLP purchased the rights to use the patented Music Man headstock shape, and their guitars mimic EB/MM designs, but they're not really anything like them. Fretboard radius and neck heel are very different, and the quality of the wood and hardware used is much lower on an OLP. Basically, it can be likened to the difference between a Chinese Squier Strat and a Fender Customshop model - they have the same general shape, but the similarities end there...

That being said, OLP's are great guitars for the money, with decent build quality and great style. Congrats on picking up a great guitar!

IMHO: Absolutely. The tone of low priced guitar can change drastically with quality pickups. :^)

As for the feel of the OLP, the EBMM and OLP feel very different. If you get the chance, got to a local music shop and play a real EBMM. The EBMM may spoil you, but you will get a good idea of quality difference.

In the OLP's defence, it's not just a quality difference - the spec is very different as well. The OLP neck has a much flatter radius (something like 16" vs. the Axis' 10") and a very generic feeling medium "C" shape back as opposed to the Axis' custom shape with the sloped shoulders (that only hours of hand sanding can accomplish, of course... okay, the quality difference is telling :D ) Still, they OLPs are very well thought of, especially in their price range. I almost grabbed one of the Silhouette-style OLP's as part of the pack-in with the Guitar Port that's being sold around the 'net at Music123 and Musician's Friend for $199 just the other day - hell, I might still do it ... ;)
