Hi guys, I currently use a Ibanez Prestige guitar for 7 years. The bridge is rusting, and one of my intonation saddles is broken. Thus selling it is unlikely. so I could spend money getting a new bridge and fixing some parts.

Singapore has brought in the Sterling JP 50 , so I am very much interested in it. No matter which guitar I keep, I am going to install the CL/LF combo.

More or less, I would like to know the general comparison between a JP50 and a Ibanez Prestige (DimarzioIBZ pickups). And whether or not, generally its a good idea to switch.

Thank you for your time.

Jonny,

Hello… I don’t have any experience with the JP50, but I’ve owned 3 EB MM Petrucci’s(still own one). That being said, try one of the JP50’s out and see if it feels “right” to you. I tried one out a while back and it was pretty nice. Ultimately, I decided to save up a bit and just go for the full blown EB MM Petrucci.

Anyone could recommend a guitar for you because they love it and think it’s amazing, but it doesn’t matter. Do what works best for you… good luck!!!

Thanks for the quick reply, im having a lot of GAS at the moment and I am primarily saving for a Telecaster however, I do feel I need to have a change for a humbucker guitar.

I am sure those who have played a JP50 must have played a Ibby Prestige before, thus I would like to know the primary differences :)

gotcha... i've also owned a few prestiege models... jem, RG, etc... the necks on those are thinner and slightly flatter(to me anyway).

i use a JP50, which I upgraded with CL/LF. It sounds amazinglingly close to the US JP6, also in playability too.
For me, having been an Ibanez player for years, had all the Jem, Universe, RG and Sabre models, I could never bond with the Ibanez necks like i do with the Music Man necks. The Music Man just plays better and way more comfortable, fits the left hand technique and very fast when you need that.
the JP50 even blows away my vintage Les Paul and Strat as far as playing comfort goes.

That was what I was looking to hear, the ibanez necks are too damn ruler-y. How are the electronics and components holding up?

Played the JP50, sounds and feels nice, even better with the CL/LF probably. I still much prefer the Ernie Ball one, but the SBMM is still great.

That's why i stopped using ibanez.
The electronics, the bar on the JP50 are all exceptional. the only thing I hate on it is the damn toggle switch, very flimsy. I switch back and forth all the time and this thing just doesn't hold up.

I played a JP50 and thought it was a great guitar at a great price point. It is not an actual EBMM JP...but...it is a great guitar. I don't think you will have any issues.

Many many many people on the youtube review has said the first thing they replaced on the JP50 was the toggle switch akin to the one on the standard JP's.

what is the year and model of the prestige? imo a mij ibanez is better than alot of guitars. i would place my 93 s470 ahead of my new axis ss but way behind the jp6 but thats alot of personal preference.

a 2003 2570 RG. I cant really put a comparison to other guitars cos i hardly play other models. :( great feedback guys ! It was a real surprise to see how well jp50 is really comparing to higher end models of other brands. What is the real diff between a JP50 And a JP6 ? In terms of specs and actual feel that you find.

If your heart is dead set on a telecaster, you won't want to try and Albert Lee. I say that because if you try the Al, you'll forget that a tele even exists. I'm serious.

your ibanez is probably better than the jp50. thats what happens when you compare the top of the line from one company to the bottom of another. my two favorite parts of the jp are the bridge and the neck. on the jp50 both are different

A prestige aint top line ibanez. Very few Ibanez guitars are made in Japan and prestige aint.

Its still made in a factory similar to the JP50 I expect.
Therefore workmanship won't be any better.

Although I doubt the JP50 will have a 6 inch thick plastic paintjob to hide the 200 million bits of wood the body is probably constructed from.

i know prestige isnt top of the line but the j-customs and the like are well past the point of diminishing returns and limited availability. the 2570 does have a nice neck and i believe its bridge is the edge pro to go along with dimarzio pups. im also 99% sure its made in the fugigen factory and they build great guitars there. imo that rg is closer to the jp6 than the jp50 is. if you want a budget ebmm the sub is where its at
