i was recently looking at some of my old cliping and stuff and stumbled across an old EBMM catalog. Inside i looked and it had the old EVH model and i was surprised to see that it said 8 pounds varies slightly.

Now the Axis says something like 7 pounds 6 ounces or something like that.

whats with the weight difference??

I know it aint that big of a deal but half a pound is half a pound in guitars.

I have heard that the lighter weight basswood is better.

any thoughts?

cheers

Having had a few of most models, I've found there can be a fair difference in weight. I wouldn't take the weight specs on the site as the gospel- wood being wood, you're going to get a fair amount of variance from model to model. (And who knows, the trem block may be different, etc.)

Also, there's the belly contour to account for some of the lost weight on the Axis. that's really the only difference . . . .No belly contour on the EVH.

The EVH and Axis are both basswood with a maple top, so it's a bit of an apples to apples comparison.

My Super-sport is really light,....didn't realize how light it was until I picked up my Ibanez the other day,.....thing felt like a truck,...it is mahoganyw/ maple top too.....was thinking about maybe keeping the Ibanez ( got it up for sale ), then I played my Axis again,...and confirmed, still for sale.....the Axis rules. Can't wait to get another one! I don't think a pound will matter, but a couple pounds is another thing.

half a pound matters tons to high end builders.....

but maybe the contour thingy has something to do with it. that makes the most sense

In addition to the body contour, the control route is also bigger in the Axis than the EVH. The EVH was routed for one pot. The Axis, for several.

I've had I believe 7 different Axis guitars and 1 EVH over the years. The Spaceball 3000 (blue ASS) was considerably lighter than say the Rosewood SS. At least a pound difference. My current purple SS is lighter than the EVH I sold. I was always surprised by the different weights in the same model guitars.
