So, I just found this - hysterical!!!

More EVH Stuff - TASTY!!!!!

Dayam, that's FUNNY! Wonder how long it'll take for the other EVH to send him a cease & desist notice for "trademark" infringement?

(And speaking of tasty, his dining room decor is much more palatable, too...:D)

BTW, I mentioned earlier that some striped Wolfgangs exist...here's a pic of one (and a non-striped version ;)) from the show at the Meadowlands in NJ last month (apparently there's copies of that for sale on eBay):

Someone announced on Jemsite that EVH signed to Fender on July 14th!!!

Ah well. Don't want one anyway. I like the Axis as a guitar. Not sure what a Charvel will be like but their San Demas seems ludicrous at $4000 and an EVH custom might end up in that bracket due to Fender's amazing ability to triple what an instrument is actually worth.

Still, leaves me with the Axis and Luke to choose from still....

I'll believe that when I see the official press release from Fender. If true I wonder what the rationale will be this time

Much as I respect EVH and his influence, his motives have always been money led... but does the world need yet another EVH guitar?

On the strength of the live reviews and the rather disappointing extra songs on the new Best Of... album we may never have long enough to find out.

If they can't pull something special out the bag for the next album then OU812 will still remain my last really, trully loved Van Halen album. The new songs smack of:

EVH: Hey Sammy, I've got ideas for 20 songs.

SH: But they're only putting 3 on the new album Ed

EVH: That's OK, I compressed all my ideas into 3 songs, play them all at the same time in different keys and different tempos. You just need to sing really trite lyrics that I'll push to the back of the mix later so no-one can hear them...

Hmmm....I was on the Fender site yesterday, and saw that they now have a Charvel link on the menu bar. Hitting that takes you to the Charvel.com site, where there's a "coming soon - the official website of Charvel Guitars" graphic.

I think it would be fair to think based on the info we've seen in this thread so far that the debut of this site will coincide with a press release naming EVH as their main signatory artist for the "revival" of this guitar line.

What's sad is that Wayne Charvel himself will probably have squat to do with this new venture other than his last name being on it since his selling of the company to Jackson years ago. There's nothing on his custom guitar site (wayneguitars.com) that I can see that would lead me to think he's affiliated with it's current incarnation. What is comical, tho, is that on the front page of said site is a pic of the guitarist for the Atomic Punks, the leading VH tribute band, using a familiar-looking white/black striped guitar...

As for Ed's rationale - it's anyone's guess for those of us mortals outside of his circle. I'm one of those who think actions speak louder than words, though....

If true , too bad for Peavey - they sunk a lot of resources into the Wolfgang line - to the detriment of some of their other instruments. Maybe that is why they signed on Satch for an amp - they might have seen it coming. I wonder if it would mean the 5150 amp is toast too.

At least Fender has a stable of names and a history that if/when Ed leaves it won't be a corporate disaster.

IMO, if EVH is all about following the money as some have implied, he'd be pretty foolish to leave PV. Anyone's opinion of the company and their products aside, they have a large Wolfgang machine in motion with the USA production, Korean production and a Custom Shop. That didn't come over night and was started when EVH was a more relevant contemporary artist; he had current albums and tours out. It appears he's becoming relevant again but he's not quite there yet. Put out a hot album of all new songs and he'll be getting close.

If he leaves and goes to another company to make yet another guitar I'm sure it will be a good one. But I'm guessing the novelty of owning an EVH guitar will have left many folks who have EBMM's and Wolfgangs. Some will follow him anywhere he goes but many/most will not. As good as his EBMM and PV gutars are I'm guessing their sales have gotten quite a bump simply from his association with them.

As for the new Charvel guitars, I'm sure they're good. From what I've heard his Wolfgang still gets 90% of his stage time live. The Charvels seem almost like a retro throw back. I don't mean that in a bad way. But it will be interesting to see how much they end up going for. If he didn't play them on stage I'd guess they'd go for $1k or so.

He doesn't seem like an extremely logical guy. He could easily look a gift horse in the mouth and leave PV for something new and different. I just don't think it would be a wise business move.

Fender has owned Jackson/Charvel for almost 2 years. I'm surprised you guys are surprised at this. Fine print in the Jackson ads in magazines say trademarked per FMIC.

This is true...but have they been releasing any guitars under the Charvel name since the acquisition? I personally can only recall it being Jacksons up this point myself, but admittedly I haven't been payin' a whole lotta attention either... ;)

Yeah they have, ummm....shat! I forget the names, but they had a few of them out, a couple looked pretty sweet actually, I thought about grabbing one before I got into my current addiction, and i'm glad I didn't. They've got a few that looked like poor man's Phil Collens. They can still be found pretty cheap.

Peavey & EVH

Has anyone noticed that there is no longer ANY information on the VH website pertaining to Peavey at all? Remember, there used to be a link right on the front page to the Wolfgang Custom Shop? Not anywhere there any more. And nothing on the site exists relating to Eddie's gear. I think the relationship is over! I hope Peavey continues to make the Wolfgang just like EBMM continued to make the Axis! :)

Unlike the VH site, there is still plenty of EVH linkage on the Peavey site. Their Wolfgang custom shop link is on THEIR front page, and one of the offerings they have online is a lucite Wolf (hmm...didn't another famous guitarist who's recently had an amp done by Peavey have a lucite signature model done a few years ago?)... ;)

Ed was crowing in the post-EBMM days about how - unlike the what became the Axis - he owned the design of the Wolf, right down to the pickups. Wonder how that's gonna pan out?

I have to agree nobozos. Of course it would be fun on some level to have one of these guitars. But I already have a bigger piece of EVH's classic 5150 guitar in my EBMM EVH. The neck on the EVH is an exact duplicate of his old "Kramer". After that you're just talking about the shape of the body and removing a pickup. Why would having one less pickup cost so much? Are you paying $4k for a pickup?

I'm sure they are nice guitars and I would enjoy having one. But not for that kind of money. I can think of 10 other guitars I'd rather have first. And I've been an EVH-head from the beginning... I'm sorry to say I remember that long ago.
