I'm looking to buy a used MusicMan EVH guitar but I saw that their is no signature on the front of the headstock that I have seen on all other EVH models. Its definately an EVH, not an Axis, with the toggle switch off to one side etc etc. Why would this be? Does it affect value or am I being paranoid?

There are a couple of possibilities here. In order of likely-hood:

1. It's not an EVH, it's a Japanese-built (from US parts) Axis. You can still buy the EVH form-factor as an Axis from EB/MM Japan....

2. It's a fluke, a US EVH that came out at the very end of the run and didn't get the signature decal....

Either way I think it would SIGNIFICANTLY effect the value of the guitar... A Japanese EVH-style Axis is worth about the same as a contemporary Axis on the used market in North America (~$800), but I'm not sure what a real EVH would be worth sans the signature decal. Get the serial number and post it here and the Admins will be able to tell you if it is a US-made guitar.

If you are looking for an EVH, boy do I have a guy for you that is a big collector on those guitars. I bought an 1995 EVH Transgold hardtail at Christmas from Barry. A great price I might also add.
To get ahold of Barry, his email address is [email protected]
He had posted not to long ago an NOS EVH for sale here on this forum. Anyone that has dealt with Barry, are happy customers.
Email him and let him know what you are looking for, and chances are he has it or knows someone who does.
Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

The Guitar in question is most likely a Axis EX from Japan. The guitars are very similar to the EVH in cosmetics without the signed headstock.
The guitar is discontinued but you will still see them from time to time on e-bay or in the Japanese Market place. The Seriel # usually starts with "A".

We made a few Unamed Axis/EVH guitars late 95 into 96 just after Eddie left the company. There is not that many out there like that ,but they do exist. The switch is on the upper horn with no signature.

From the 1/96 catalog .
