I keep hearing about how close the pups sound in the OLP mm1's to the EBMM dimarzio's in the axis?
has anyone did a A/B with them?
please clear this up
i am looking for a aftermarket set that is as close as possible for a used axis i just bought that someone put EMG's in!:(

They aren't the same. I have an AXIS NECK pickup I could maybe part with. The bridge pickup you'll have to find elsewhere.

Yeesh. I'd keep an eye on eBay and this forum. One pops up every few months or so. They are really excellent sounding p'ups.

Easy!!! The Luke-ites will be after you....with me at the front of the queue!! The EMGs sound fantastic in the LUKE, but you're right....it just wouldn't do in an Axis.

in that axe they rock and it is a 85 which is a real good emg IMHO but

I have an OLPmm1 where I swapped out the bridge pickup for a Tone Zone; the OLP is great for the money but the Dimarzio was much better IMHO - got the guitar very close to my EBMMevh. Certainly the best budget guitar I've played.

steve i tried the tone zone in my axis and not that is was bad but i would not say it sounded like the bridge custom wound dimarzio pup in my other axis
I know dimarzio says the tone zone is the closest but after trying it and then doing a A/B side by side with two axis guitars through the same amp, same actions/strings/same player the tone zone was a lot hotter, thicker, more heavy metal sounding than the stock dimarzio in my first axis
I wish the TZ was thee pup i could stop looking!:D
anyway i have since heard to try a regular NORTON in the bridge
it was said these sound venomously close to the stock dimarzio

yes - that was my impression putting the tone zone into the OLP; it was hotter, thicker and more metal than the stock pu. However, the stock pu on the OLP is pretty cheap compared to the Dimarzio real-deal on the Axis/evh (and so it should be given the price differential!).

Overall though, I was very impressed at how the Dimarzio lifted the OLP into pretty serious tonal territory. It now sounds great for a cheap guitar.

Cheers,
Steve
