I just bought a '92 EVH in trans black and i noticed the pups are set further away from the strings than on my two axis guitars?
is this eddies personal pu height?
those of you that own a pre axis EVH model what are the pup heights on yours?
measuring from bottom of string to top of stud pole of the dimarzio.
i ask because the EVH sounds better than my other two axis guitars?
thanks advance:)

My EVH pickups are the lowest of any guitar I own. It is also the best sounding guitar I own! Fortunately, I've never made a single adjustment to the p/u height and so I've never "lost" the tone.

At one point I owned two EVH's, a regular one and a hardtail. The regular one sounded much better and it turns out that the pickups were lower than on the hardtail. I had a tech lower the pickups in the hardtail, and sure enough, there it was.

I raised the Pups on mine one time by shimming them. Gone was the airy sound-now it´s back to factory height. Save the time doin it just enjoy the good sound, if it would sound better the other way they´ve produced it that way believ e me.

No way

I have 18-ish now and no way I'm jacking with them. Even though there may be better guitars, and more expensive guitars, the EVH EBMM is the perfect guitar to me, and I'm not about to mess with perfection.

I haven't had to do anything with the pickups in my EVH.

A couple of years ago the nut required shimming. I also put a slightly thicker shim in the neck pocket. But nothing on the pickups.

I'll try to get a ruler that can give you an accurate reading. All I have handy is a yard stick! My point is that whatever they were set at before leaving the facrtory is wonderful! Either EVH or Ernie Ball knew what they were doing because this is the most toneful of all my guitars (I knew it when I first played it - unamplified. Amped up, it simply reinforced what was obvious when I played it acoustically - this thing just has "it.") By the way, this is the loudest unamped electric that I have ever played - maybe the p/u height helps when plugged in but I think they simply got it right the first time around.
