Hi everyone, just a quick thought...
I read a while ago how Anthony Jackson uses some really hi end pre-amps and powered PA cabs for his live dates. At first I thought it was all a bit too "Hi-Fi" snobbish BUT I borrowed a Mackie powered 12" (not hi-fi but good)to do a Christmas casual with my upright and then right after used it for a rehearsal with a fairly loud drummer with my electric. I've never heard my B string or my bass sound quite like it before. It was a bit weird but the weirdness was the fact that the Mackie is designed as a PA speaker and designed to cover a huge chunk of the sound spectrum instead of "bass players just want the bottom" that some cabinet designs inherently have. SO all of this rant to see what you all think about the slow move towards powered PA speakers and good preamps compared to the standard combo amp or full rig set up?????

cheers!

BYW great SR sightings on TV with the bassists from Linkin Park / Hooba Stank / Fefe Dobson all with great shots of their Rays in their videos! Good on ya fellas!!

Our band upgraded our main PA early in the year to a Mackie active rig. List price is around £3,400 for the 2 12" tops and two subs, we shopped around and got the lot for about £2600.

IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I damaged my shoulder a couple of years back and cannot cart around a heavy bass amp. With this new rig (2k total output when pushed) I get to sound as loud as I need in the PA without the drummer moaning that he cannot hear himself on stage. I therefore manage with a Hartke Kickback with a DI into the desk and everybody is happy.

Seldom do we have to crank the system more that 30-40% and the quality of the sound is just beautiful. The bins can be lifted quite comfortably by one averagely strong person and therefore the system is extremely portable considering the power.
