I own, but almost never play, a custom 24 with wide thin neck that I got shortly before I started buying music man guitars. It was extremely comfortable to play both the feel of the neck and sitting with the guitar on your lap.

That said, the humbucker tone was too muddy for my ears, but the coil taps sounded like dripping icewater (absolutely stunning). And it's also a beautiful guitar so I can't seem to part with it.

The most difficult thing for me to get used to on that guitar was/is the rotary pickup knob. Personally I think it's not nearly as efficient or easy to access as a pickup SWITCH and I see it as a design flaw. If you go that route, play it a lot before buying.

I own a JP6 with piezo and a 1992 PRS CE24 with wide-thin neck. Both are excellent guitars. I owned the PRS before the JP.

I still take the PRS out once in a while, and just the feel of it tells me it's a quality instrument. The curves are nice, and the pickups are strong with nice playing dynamics.

All that being said, if I can only take one guitar with me when I play, I'm almost always gonna choose the EBMM JP. Only reason I wouldn't? If the JP was in the shop, or if I was worried about the JP getting damaged where I was going! (Like the local jam night in my neighborhood... lots of people, sometimes too much beer... I'd rather not worry about my baby in that stuation!)

I like the EBMM better because it just feels like it's the better fit for me. The neck feels just incredible, and the fretboard and balance of the instrument are comfortable. I also like the fact that the basswood makes it lightweight. The magnetic pickups don't seem quite as strong as the PRS pickups, but that's nothing - I just adjust my equipment accordingly. Plus, the PRS just plain cannot touch the acoustic tone that I can get with the EBMM piezo.

There are pros that play PRS. There are pros that play EBMM. Same for amateurs.

My simple advice? Find the guitar that makes you WANT to take it out of its case and play it over and over again. That's the best guitar for you. For me? It's my JP6. (If I even own a Silo 20th, maybe then it'll be a 50/50 with my JP. :) )

Like Poppa said - both types are great instruments. Find what works for you.
